Yard Operative – AVS Wokingham
We are searching for a dedicated and diligent individual to join our team as a Yard Operative at our Wokingham branch. This is a fantastic opportunity to work in a fast-paced, friendly builders’ and timber merchant environment, ensuring that our yard runs smoothly, efficiently, and safely.
Location – AVS Wokingham Branch

Working Hours for Yard Operative – Wokingham
This is a full-time role, working Monday to Friday from 07:30 to 17:00, and every other Saturday from 08:00 to 12:00, totalling 44.5 hours per week.

Main Responsibilities
- Safely load and unload deliveries, with all products handled with care
- Accurately pick and prepare fencing & landscaping materials for customer orders
- Deliver excellent customer service to trade and retail customers in the yard
- Support stock receipt and goods-in processes, maintaining accurate inventory records
- Ensure high standards of tidiness, organisation, and safety across the yard and warehouse areas
- Operate forklifts and other materials handling equipment (training provided as required)
- Monitor and maintain robust health and safety practices, reporting any concerns promptly
- Work collaboratively with colleagues to support daily branch operations
- Undertake other general yard, warehouse, and branch tasks as required
Person Specification – Yard Operative Candidate Profile
- Previous experience in a yard, warehouse, builders’ merchant, or similar setting is preferred.
- Friendly, customer-focused attitude and a willingness to help
- Physically fit and able to work effectively outdoors in all weather conditions
- Commitment to upholding high standards of safety, tidiness, and professionalism
- Reliable, punctual, and able to work as part of a close-knit team
- Excellent attention to detail and good organisation skills
- Valid forklift truck (FLT) licence is desirable but not essential – full training can be provided
- Positive, proactive approach to work
