Role Overview

We are recruiting a Telesales / Counter Sales team member to join our Witham branch. This is a customer-facing, hybrid telesales and counter role based in-branch, responsible for handling inbound and outbound calls, serving counter customers, processing orders, providing product advice and supporting branch sales activity to achieve revenue and service targets.

Working hours

Full time, permanent position. Typical hours will be Monday to Friday 07.30 - 17.00 with 1 in 2 Saturday mornings working 08.00 - 12.00.

Main Responsibilities

  • Respond to inbound customer enquiries by phone and at the counter promptly and professionally, converting enquiries into sales and providing accurate product information and technical guidance.
  • Proactively make outbound calls to trade and retail customers to follow up quotations, generate orders and drive repeat business.
  • Serve counter customers efficiently, ensuring goods are correctly picked, packaged and prepared for collection or delivery.
  • Process customer orders accurately using the company order management system and communicate order status to customers in a timely manner.
  • Upsell and cross-sell products and services across the Lawsons range to maximise revenue and margin.
  • Work closely with yard and delivery teams to coordinate fulfilment, resolve issues and ensure excellent customer service.
  • Maintain and update customer records, call logs and sales activity within the CRM system to support forecasting and reporting.
  • Meet individual and branch sales targets, KPIs and performance metrics set by branch and central teams.
  • Provide feedback on customer trends, product demand and competitor activity to support branch merchandising and promotions.
  • Adhere to company policies, data protection requirements and health and safety guidance at all times.

Qualifications and Skills

  • Proven telesales, counter sales or customer service experience, ideally within builders’ merchants, timber, landscaping or related sectors.
  • Excellent communication and telephone manner with the ability to build rapport quickly and professionally.
  • Commercially aware with a focus on achieving sales targets and delivering excellent customer service.
  • Good IT literacy and experience using CRM systems, Microsoft Office and telephony platforms.
  • Organised, resilient and able to manage a varied workload while maintaining attention to detail.
  • Team player who collaborates effectively with branch, yard and delivery colleagues.
  • Willingness to undertake product and systems training to broaden knowledge and capability.
