We are recruiting for a Van Driver to join our New Malden branch to support deliveries and customer service across our local trade and retail customers.

Role overview

As a Van Driver at our New Malden branch, you will be responsible for safe, timely delivery of goods to customers, maintaining excellent customer service standards and ensuring the van and paperwork are kept in good order. The role requires a professional, reliable individual with good time management, basic stock handling skills and a strong focus on health & safety.

Working hours

This is a full‑time, permanent role. Typical hours are Monday to Friday with 1 in 2 Saturdays working 08.00 - 12.00 and flexibility required to meet customer and operational needs. Specific hours will be discussed at interview and may vary depending on branch requirements.

Main responsibilities

  • Collect, load and deliver goods safely and efficiently to customers, ensuring deliveries are accurate and on time.
  • Provide friendly, professional customer service at all times, representing Lawsons positively on site.
  • Use handheld devices and paperwork to record deliveries, obtain signatures and report any issues or discrepancies.
  • Ensure goods are stowed securely in the van to prevent damage in transit and assist customers with unloading where required and safe to do so.
  • Carry out pre‑start vehicle checks, report defects and ensure the van is kept clean, fuelled and roadworthy.
  • Adhere to all health & safety policies and driving regulations, including safe loading, manual handling and lone working procedures.
  • Support branch colleagues with yard duties, stock movements and basic warehouse tasks as needed.
  • Contribute to accurate completion of delivery records, invoices and returns in line with company procedures.

Skills & experience

  • Valid full UK driving licence (manual). Clean driving record preferred.
  • Previous experience in a delivery, driving or customer‑facing role within a builders merchants is essential.
  • Good customer service skills with a professional, courteous manner.
  • Basic numeracy and literacy to check paperwork and handle transactions.
  • Ability to carry out manual handling tasks safely; knowledge of safe lifting techniques is advantageous.
  • Reliable, punctual and organised with the ability to plan routes and manage time effectively.
  • Comfortable using handheld devices and following electronic processes for deliveries.
  • Fork‑truck or plant licence is advantageous but not essential.
