We are recruiting an experienced HGV Class 2 HIAB Driver to join our branch in Briants of Princes Risborough. This customer-facing driving role involves delivering building materials safely and efficiently to trade and retail customers across the local area. The successful candidate will be safety conscious, reliable and professional, with strong knowledge of vehicle operations, HIAB equipment and safe delivery practices.

Main Responsibilities

  • Operate an HGV Class 2 vehicle fitted with HIAB equipment to complete customer deliveries safely, efficiently and on time.
  • Plan and follow delivery routes, taking account of customer requirements, site access, vehicle restrictions and scheduled delivery time windows.
  • Load, transport and offload building materials securely and accurately using HIAB equipment and other relevant handling equipment.
  • Complete daily vehicle checks and ensure the vehicle, crane and associated equipment remain safe, roadworthy and compliant.
  • Report vehicle defects, equipment faults, accidents, incidents, near misses and delivery issues promptly through the correct company procedures.
  • Ensure all goods are loaded securely and delivered in accordance with safe loading practices and company requirements.
  • Operate the HIAB crane safely and responsibly, following manufacturer guidance, lifting plans, site rules and relevant training requirements.
  • Carry out deliveries to construction sites, trade premises, customer homes and other locations, assessing access and ground conditions before unloading.
  • Communicate professionally with customers, site contacts, branch colleagues and transport teams, providing a high standard of customer service.
  • Obtain accurate signatures and electronic or written proof of delivery, recording shortages, damages or other discrepancies where required.
  • Comply with drivers’ hours, tachograph, Driver CPC, vehicle compliance and other relevant UK road transport legislation.
  • Maintain the cleanliness and presentation of the vehicle, reporting any maintenance or servicing requirements to the transport or branch team.
  • Follow company health and safety procedures, risk assessments, personal protective equipment requirements and customer site instructions.
  • Support the branch and wider transport operation during busy periods, working collaboratively with colleagues to meet customer delivery requirements.

Person Specification

  • Full, valid HGV Class 2 licence with a clean and safe driving record.
  • Valid Driver CPC qualification and digital tachograph card.
  • Previous experience driving an HGV Class 2 vehicle in a delivery, logistics, distribution or builders’ merchants environment.
  • HIAB or lorry loader experience, with a recognised HIAB qualification or relevant operator training.
  • Good knowledge of safe loading, unloading, lifting operations and vehicle security procedures.
  • Good understanding of UK drivers’ hours, tachograph requirements and road transport compliance.
  • Safety conscious and able to assess delivery locations, access restrictions and site risks before unloading.
  • Customer focused, polite and professional when representing the company at customer and construction sites.
  • Reliable, organised and able to manage delivery schedules while maintaining accurate paperwork and records.
  • Physically fit and comfortable working outdoors in changing weather conditions and handling building materials where required.
  • Good communication skills and the ability to work effectively with drivers, branch teams, customers and site personnel.
  • Flexible and dependable, with the ability to work early starts, occasional Saturdays and additional hours when operationally required.

Working Hours, Salary and Benefits

  • Working hours are Monday - Friday 07.30 - 17.00, plus 1 in 2 Saturdays 08.00 - 12.00.
  • Competitive salary dependent on experience (£39,000 - £42,000).
