Position Overview

We are recruiting for a Telesales / Counter Sales role to be based at our Chichester branch. This permanent, office-based position combines telesales activity with counter sales responsibilities, supporting both telephone and face‑to‑face customers. The successful candidate will promote products and services, convert enquiries into sales, manage customer accounts and work closely with branch colleagues to deliver excellent service and drive sales growth across the branch.

Working Hours

This is a full-time, permanent position. Typical hours are Monday to Friday 07:30–17:00, plus 1 in 2 Saturdays 08:00–12:00.

Main Responsibilities

  • Make outbound calls to existing and prospective customers to promote products and services, convert leads and generate sales opportunities.
  • Handle inbound telephone enquiries professionally, providing accurate product information and advising on suitable solutions.
  • Serve customers at the branch counter, managing face‑to‑face enquiries, quotations and order processing efficiently and courteously.
  • Achieve and exceed individual and team sales targets and KPIs through effective account management and proactive selling.
  • Build and maintain strong customer relationships, ensuring a high level of service and repeat business.
  • Accurately record all customer interactions, sales activity and follow-ups in the company CRM system and ensure paperwork is completed in line with company procedures.
  • Work closely with branch colleagues to identify cross-sell and upsell opportunities, support order fulfilment and pass on customer feedback.
  • Support marketing campaigns and promotional activity by contacting targeted customer lists and reporting results.
  • Adhere to company policies, data protection regulations and industry best practice when handling customer data.

Qualifications and Skills

  • Previous telesales, counter sales or customer service experience within a builders’ merchants, timber, or building supplies environment (essential).
  • Proven track record of meeting sales targets and working to KPI metrics.
  • Excellent telephone manner and strong face‑to‑face customer service skills with a customer‑focused approach.
  • Confident negotiator with good commercial awareness and the ability to identify sales opportunities.
  • Proficient IT skills, including MS Office and experience of CRM or branch sales systems; accurate record keeping and attention to detail are essential.
  • Ability to work well within a team and manage time effectively in a busy environment.
  • A positive, resilient attitude with willingness to learn about our products and services.
  • Valid UK driving licence desirable; flexibility to assist with occasional local deliveries or customer visits if required.
