Job Overview
We are seeking an experienced Tendering & Design Engineer to support the development of technically compliant, tender submissions for LV switchgear, package substations, and EV infrastructure projects.
The successful candidate will play a key role in both the tendering and preliminary design stages of projects, producing technical solutions, drawings, equipment selections, and costing support for customer enquiries.
Working closely with the Tendering Manager, Sales, Procurement and Manufacturing teams, the role requires a strong technical understanding of electrical distribution systems together with excellent communication and organisational skills.
This position would suit an individual with a minimum of five years' experience in a similar role who can work effectively within a team environment whilst also taking ownership of tasks and working under their own initiative.
Key Responsibilities
- Tender Preparation & Support
- Create contract drawings (where applicable) and tender documentation.
- Develop technically compliant customer solutions for LV switchgear, package substations and EV charging infrastructure projects in line with specifications.
- Prepare technical submissions, equipment schedules and supporting documentation for tender returns.
Ensure tender submissions are completed accurately and within required timescales.
- Assist with post-tender clarifications and customer technical queries.
Support value engineering activities to optimise project costs whilst maintaining compliance and functionality.
- Design Engineering
- Produce and modify electrical design drawings using 2D and 3D CAD software.
- Create bespoke, contract specific general arrangement drawings and schematic diagrams
- Ensure designs comply with customer requirements, relevant standards and company procedures.
- Maintain technical documentation and drawing records throughout the bid process.
- Systems & Configuration
- Utilise Auto CAD and NX software to support engineering activities.
- Use Tacton configuration software to create proposals for technical solutions.
- Utilise Microsoft Dynamics 365 (D365) for proposal and project tracking.
- Stakeholder Engagement
- Communicate effectively with customers, consultants and internal teams.
- Attend technical meetings where required and provide engineering support during bid reviews.
- Work collaboratively with Tendering, Sales and Operations teams to ensure successful project delivery.
- Build positive working relationships across all areas of the business.
- Continuous Improvement
- Identify opportunities to improve tendering processes, design standards and engineering efficiency.
- Contribute to lessons learned reviews and continuous improvement initiatives.
- Keep up to date with industry developments, standards and emerging technologies within the electrical distribution and EV sectors.
- Key Requirements
Qualifications
- HNC/HND, Degree, Apprenticeship or equivalent qualification in Electrical Engineering or a related discipline.
- Relevant professional engineering qualifications or working towards professional registration would be advantageous.
Experience
- Minimum 5 years' experience in a Tendering Engineer, Design Engineer, Applications Engineer or similar role.
- Experience within LV switchgear for the EV sector, power distribution or package substation design is highly desirable.
- Familiarity with electrical distribution systems and associated industry standards.
- Experience producing technical and commercial tender documentation in line with current processes.
- Technical Skills
- Good working knowledge of Auto CAD software.
- Experience with Siemens NX software is desirable.
- Experience using Tacton or similar product configuration software.
- Knowledge of Microsoft Dynamics 365 (D365) would be beneficial.
- Ability to interpret customer electrical specifications, schematics and technical drawings.
- Competent user of Microsoft Office applications, particularly Excel and Word.

The Tendering & Design Engineer reports directly to the Tendering Manager and works closely with Sales, Engineering, Procurement, Production and Project Delivery teams to secure and successfully deliver business opportunities.
