Shean Dickson Merrick is looking for a Litigation Solicitor to assist with commercial and general litigation.

Responsibilities:

  • Managing a case load of litigation cases from inception to finish including High Court, County Court and Small Claims.
  • Assessing the merits of potential claims, providing legal advice and formulating legal strategies.
  • Consulting with clients, witnesses and experts to ensure the competent and efficient preparation of litigation cases.
  • Reviewing all evidence in the case and establishing the prospects of success.
  • Coordinating with external legal services (including Counsel) where necessary and appropriate.
  • Conducting legal research and analysis on relevant regulations, legislation and case law.
  • Drafting and/or assisting with the drafting of legal documents such as pre-action letters, pleadings, affidavits and skeleton arguments.
  • Providing representation (including advocacy as required) at court hearings/reviews.
  • Ensuring strict compliance with court rules and procedures.
  • Advising clients in relation to litigation costs as cases progress and assisting with the management and recovery of litigation expenses.
  • Negotiating settlements and exploring alternative dispute resolution methods such as mediation.
  • Maintaining accurate and fulsome file records including attendance notes.

Candidate Specification:

  • Qualified solicitor in NI ideally with 3+ years PQE.
  • Previous experience in litigation including case management and court representation.
  • In-depth knowledge of court rules and procedures in NI.
  • Excellent client care skills including ability to establish and maintain good client relationships.
  • Excellent problem-solving and analytical skills in relation to litigation matters.
  • Excellent attention to detail to ensure thoroughness and accuracy in relation to litigation matters.
  • Excellent verbal communication skills including liaising with clients, experts and external Counsel.
  • Excellent written communication skills including reviewing and drafting legal documents.
  • Experience in the management and recovery of litigation expenses.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively as part of a team.
  • Ability to identify and develop new business opportunities and relationships.
