The Housing Executive is now recruiting for anAssistant Solicitor (Housing Management & Litigation) to join their team.

Location: Housing Centre, Adelaide Street, Belfast with travel throughout NI

Job Purpose
In this role, you will undertake and assist in the provision of professional and timely legal advice and assistance in relation to a range of matters across the main functions of the team.

The Assistant Solicitor will be expected to work independently, under the supervision of the Senior Solicitors within Legal Services to ensure the provision of a high-quality legal services to all levels of the organisation.

The Assistant Solicitor will undertake a programme of development within Legal Services, with a typical duration of two to three years, engaging in a comprehensive Personal Development Programme, and gaining skills and experience across a number of areas of the Housing Executive’s legal work, with a focus on Housing Management and Litigation work. The Assistant Solicitor will be appointed as a Band 7 Solicitor on satisfactory completion of the Programme.

Applicants must provide evidence by the closing date for application that they meet the following essential criteria:

  • Possess a degree or equivalent level (Level 6*) qualification. *refer to the Qualifications Framework.
  • Be a solicitor of the Court of Judicature of Northern Ireland qualified to practice in Northern Ireland.
  • Can demonstrate at least 2 years relevant experience in the provision, or assisting in the provision, of legal advice and assistance in relation to the conduct of, or assisting in the conduct of, civil litigation matters in the High Court or County Court.
  • Can demonstrate: (to be assessed at interview)
  • Excellent analytical thinking and decision-making skills
  • Strong organisational skills in order to manage a busy caseload
  • Ability to work well under pressure of multiple deadlines
  • Excellent interpersonal communication and influencing skills
  • Willingness and ability to work collegiately

5. Possess a current driving licence or have access to a form of transport that enables them to meet the requirements of the post in full.

  • Can also demonstrate relevant post-qualification experience in the provision, or assisting in the provision of, legal advice and assistance in relation to general title issues including undertaking residential and/or commercial conveyancing transactions.
