An exciting opportunity has arisen for an experienced Office Manager & HR professional to join a successful and established Stevenage-based business. This is a varied, hands-on position combining responsibility for the day-to-day running of the office with providing practical HR support across the business.

The Office Manager & HR will take ownership of office operations, facilities, meeting rooms, suppliers, contracts and costs, while overseeing a small administration team. Alongside this, you'll provide day-to-day HR support to managers and employees, with a particular focus on ensuring the company handbook, policies and procedures remain accurate and up to date.

We're looking for someone with previous HR and office management experience who enjoys being at the heart of a business, keeping everything organised and ensuring both the office and its people processes run smoothly.

Job Overview

  • Take responsibility for the smooth day-to-day running of the office
  • Manage office facilities, meeting rooms and general workplace requirements
  • Oversee a small administration team, providing day-to-day support and direction
  • Manage office suppliers, service contracts and insurance requirements
  • Monitor office budgets, expenditure and costs
  • Coordinate invoices and ensure expenditure is appropriately controlled
  • Provide practical HR support to managers and employees
  • Act as a point of contact for line managers requiring guidance with HR and employee matters
  • Review and update the company handbook, HR policies and procedures
  • Support recruitment, onboarding, employee changes and leavers
  • Maintain accurate employee records, holiday and attendance information
  • Support payroll administration and ensure relevant information is provided accurately
  • Assist the Managing Director with general administrative and operational requirements
  • Support Health & Safety, compliance, audits and training administration where required

Skills & Experience Required

  • Previous experience within an Office Manager, Office & HR, HR Coordinator/Advisor or similar combined role
  • Practical HR experience is essential, although a CIPD qualification is not required
  • Strong office management experience with the confidence to take ownership of day-to-day operations
  • Previous experience supervising or overseeing administrative staff
  • Experience reviewing and maintaining HR policies, procedures and employee handbooks
  • Confident providing practical HR support to managers and employees
  • Strong supplier and contract management skills
  • Commercially aware with experience monitoring budgets, invoices and costs
  • Excellent organisation and attention to detail
  • Confident, professional communicator able to work effectively with employees, managers, suppliers and Directors
  • Proactive and hands-on approach with the ability to manage a varied workload
