An exciting opportunity has arisen for an experienced Finance Assistant to join a successful and growing Hatfield-based organisation. This is a broad and varied finance position offering considerably more responsibility than a traditional transactional Finance Assistant role, making it a great opportunity for someone looking to develop their experience across multiple areas of finance.
As Finance Assistant, you'll take ownership of reconciliations, invoicing, payments and financial reporting, as well as investigating discrepancies and supporting month-end processes. You'll work closely with the Finance Manager, Financial Controller and wider business, so we're looking for someone who is confident working independently, enjoys problem-solving and has excellent attention to detail.

Finance Assistant β Job Overview
- Complete regular financial reconciliations, investigating and resolving discrepancies
- Reconcile direct debit, credit card and other financial transactions
- Prepare and process invoices, payments and other transactions
- Produce monthly and periodic financial reports, including VAT information
- Support month-end processes and provide financial information and analysis
- Maintain accurate supplier, customer, pricing and financial records
- Monitor outstanding balances and support debtor management
- Liaise with suppliers, customers and external partners to resolve finance queries
- Deal with routine banking and BACS queries
- Identify discrepancies, trends and potential financial risks
- Support improvements to finance processes, systems and reporting
- Provide ad-hoc financial analysis and project support
Finance Assistant β Skills & Experience Required
- Previous experience within a finance, accounts or financial administration role is essential
- Experience completing reconciliations, financial reporting, invoicing and payments
- Good understanding of accounting and financial processes
- Strong Microsoft Excel skills are essential
- Excellent numerical accuracy and attention to detail
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
- Confident investigating discrepancies and resolving finance queries
- Highly organised with the ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines
- Confident communicating with internal and external stakeholders
- Proactive, self-motivated and comfortable using your own initiative
- VAT reporting experience would be advantageous
- AAT study or another relevant finance/accounting qualification would be beneficial but is not essential
This Finance Assistant role would suit someone who already has a solid grounding in finance and is looking for an opportunity to take greater ownership, broaden their experience and continue developing within a friendly and supportive finance team.
