Are you a practical, hands-on person who enjoys being active?

We're recruiting on behalf of a well-established and growing business in the recycling and metal industry, and we're looking for a reliable Yard Operative to join their busy site in Biggleswade.

This is a varied, hands-on role working across both the warehouse and yard.

You'll be working outdoors in all weather conditions, operating a FLT, handling and sorting materials and helping to keep the site running safely and efficiently.

We're particularly interested in candidates who have worked in environments such as builders' merchants, construction, plant machinery, waste/recycling or busy yards and are comfortable getting stuck in.

  • Operating a FLT to unload deliveries and move materials around the site.
  • Unloading and weighing scrap metal delivered to the site.
  • Grading, quality checking, sorting and processing scrap metal.
  • Working both inside the warehouse and outside in the yard.
  • Carrying out general warehouse and yard duties.
  • Supporting housekeeping and maintaining a clean and organised working environment.
  • Assisting with basic machinery maintenance when required.
  • Following environmental, health & safety and site procedures.
  • Working as part of a team to ensure the site operates efficiently.
  • Learning about the different types of scrap metal and the processes involved, full training will be provided.

Skills & Experience Required

  • Valid FLT CTB licence is essential or experienced
  • Previous experience in a warehouse, yard, construction, builders' merchant or waste/recycling environment.
  • Comfortable working outdoors in all weather conditions.
  • Practical, hands-on approach and happy to get stuck in.
  • Reliable with good attendance and timekeeping.
  • Good team player with a positive attitude.
  • Able to follow health & safety and environmental procedures.
  • Plant machinery experience would be highly desirable, but is not essential.
  • Previous knowledge of scrap metal is also advantageous, although full training will be provided.
