Legal Engineering at Lawhive
Legal Engineering sits at the intersection of law, technology and operations. Our team combines Legal Engineers and Forward Deployed Engineers who work directly with lawyers, customers and newly acquired law firms to understand how legal work gets done today and redesign it for an AI-native future. You'll work closely with legal practitioners and product teams to identify opportunities for automation, improve workflows, implement AI-powered solutions, and help shape how legal services are delivered at scale.
The Role
As a Legal Engineer, you'll work at the forefront of AI and legal services, partnering with lawyers, operators, product managers and engineers to solve real-world problems. You'll spend time understanding legal workflows, identifying inefficiencies, designing improved processes, and helping implement solutions that enable lawyers to deliver better outcomes for clients. This is a highly cross-functional role with significant ownership and visibility. You'll have the opportunity to influence how one of the world's first AI-native law firms operates as we continue to scale.
Responsibilities
- Partner directly with lawyers and legal teams to understand workflows, pain points and opportunities for improvement
- Design, implement and optimise legal processes powered by AI and automation
- Translate legal and operational requirements into scalable systems and workflows
- Work closely with product, engineering and AI teams to shape new features and capabilities
- Support the onboarding and integration of newly acquired law firms onto the Lawhive platform
- Build and maintain automations, workflows and internal tools that improve lawyer productivity
- Analyse operational and legal data to identify opportunities for efficiency and better client outcomes
- Help define best practices for how AI should be embedded into legal work
- Act as a bridge between legal, operational and technical teams
Requirements
- Experience working in a legal, consulting, operations, product, legal technology or process improvement environment
- Strong problem-solving and analytical skills
- Ability to break down complex workflows and identify opportunities for improvement
- Comfortable working with technology and learning new tools quickly
- Excellent stakeholder management and communication skills
- Ability to operate in a fast-moving environment with a high degree of ownership
- Curiosity about AI and its application within professional services
- Experience with legal technology, automation platforms, workflow tools or process design is beneficial but not essential
Nice to Have
- Experience working in a law firm, legal operations team or legal technology company
- Experience implementing process improvements or operational transformation initiatives
- Familiarity with AI products, prompt engineering or workflow automation tools
- Experience working directly with customers or external stakeholders
