About This Role
We’re a fast-growing legal tech startup looking for a Data Analyst to join our Data and Analytics team. While this is a generalist analytics role with exposure across the business, you will have a primary focus on Finance and Revenue, partnering closely with our Finance team, Engineering, and leadership to ensure we have accurate, timely, and actionable financial insights across our UK and US markets.
You will have ownership over revenue and finance analytics, working with our modern data stack (BigQuery, dbt, Hex) alongside spreadsheet-based financial models to build data pipelines, reconcile complex payment flows, and surface insights that shape our financial strategy. Your work will directly influence how we track performance against budget, forecast revenue, and support critical business decisions including M&A activity. While your initial focus will be on Finance, this is a generalist role — as you grow with the team, you’ll have the opportunity to expand your scope across product, marketing, and operations, contributing to the full breadth of analytical work across the business.
This is a unique opportunity for someone who loves untangling complex revenue data, building robust financial reporting, and bridging the gap between technical data systems and finance stakeholder needs. You will be joining a small but growing data team that values rigour, continuous improvement, and the autonomy to solve meaningful problems.
What You’ll Do
- General Analytics
- Conduct ad-hoc analyses across the business to answer strategic questions and support decision-making.
- Proactively identify trends, anomalies, and emerging patterns in data, surfacing insights that may not be immediately obvious to stakeholders.
- Contribute to the development and maintenance of core data models in dbt, ensuring data quality and consistency across the organisation.
- Revenue & Financial Analysis
- Track and analyse performance against budget, providing variance analysis and early warning systems for budget deviations before month-end close.
- Conduct deep-dive analyses into revenue streams, profitability, and billing patterns across legal areas and markets.
- Support forecasting and scenario modelling for business planning, including pricing changes, market expansion, and other strategic initiatives.
- Data Infrastructure & Reporting
- Develop and maintain core data models in dbt for revenue metrics, ensuring consistency and accuracy across teams.
- Automate month-end reporting workflows currently handled manually in spreadsheets, while maintaining the flexibility finance teams need.
- Establish standardised financial data definitions and documentation to ensure consistency across teams and markets.
- Cross-functional Partnership
- Translate Finance team needs into clear data and engineering requirements, owning the relationship between technical implementation and business outcomes.
- Support M&A activity including due diligence, integration, and standardisation of financial metrics across entities in the Group.
About You
- 4+ years in a Data Analytics role, with at least some exposure to finance or revenue analytics, ideally within a high-growth or product-led organisation.
- Strong proficiency with SQL for complex data querying and manipulation, combined with advanced spreadsheet skills (Excel/Google Sheets) for financial modelling and ad-hoc analysis.
- Solid understanding of revenue metrics and financial concepts: gross vs net revenue, deferred revenue, cost allocation, margin analysis, and multi-currency reporting.
- Strong communication skills with the ability to translate complex data findings into clear recommendations for both technical and non-technical audiences.
- Proficiency with BI and reporting tools such as Hex, Tableau, Looker, or similar.
- Proven ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment where finance reporting needs can shift with business priorities.
Bonus Points
- Hands-on experience with dbt for data transformation and modelling.
- Experience supporting M&A due diligence, integration, or financial consolidation across entities.
- Familiarity with budgeting and forecasting processes, including variance analysis and scenario planning.
- Programming experience in Python or R for more advanced statistical analysis or automation.
