The Role:
Our Private Client Department, which the Court of Protection team is part of, is recognised by the Legal 500 as a Tier 1 firm in the East Midlands, is seeking to recruit an enthusiastic individual to join the Court of Protection Team in Nottingham as a Paralegal. The Court of Protection team plays a vital role in supporting vulnerable individuals, particularly those who lack the mental capacity to make decisions about their health, welfare, or finances. As well as Court of Protection, the team also provides advice to Boards of Trustees for grant making and almshouse charities. There will also be opportunities to provide support on matters relating to Trust creation and management within the role of Trustee.
As the Paralegal your primary focus is on Court of Protection and Trust Administration work, and you will be working closely with the team to:
- Attend clients in hospitals, care homes, or their homes – with the support of a lead/senior fee earner;
- Maintain professional and confidential communication with clients, families, and third parties;
- Attend meetings to take minutes – both client facing and virtually;
- Draft legal documents such as witness statements, court applications, and letters – for approval of a lead/senior fee earner;
- Prepare and draft Office of the Public Guardian reports for deputy approval;
- Assist in managing case files;
- Manage a caseload under supervision, often involving deputyship, health and welfare, or property and financial affairs;
- Record time accurately and ensure billing complies with Senior Courts Cost Office requirements;
- Handle correspondence, maintain schedules, and ensure client care standards are met;
- Support other fee earners and departments as needed;
- Attend networking events and contribute to firm visibility;
- Write articles or speak at events to build a reputation in the field.
The individual must be technically strong and with an eye for detail, you will need to have excellent communication and client care skills. Naturally self-motivated and enthusiastic, this role provides an excellent opportunity for an individual who is looking to gain experience and expand their knowledge.
