PURPOSE OF ROLE
Lawes are currently working with a leading MGA of a nationwide broker who are currently recruiting for a Household Trading Underwriter. You will underwrite across a mix of non-standard household and property risks, with premiums typically ranging up to £60k. This role will involve the opportunity to deal with both national and independent brokers, dealing with relationships within the market. Our client is also open to brokers who are looking to progress their career into underwriting.
RESPONSIBILITIES
- Underwrite new business, renewals & MTAs within authority
- Trade with brokers to drive conversion and retention
- Support income and growth targets
- Handle underwriting referrals from other teams
- Respond promptly to broker and client queries
- Contribute to product development
DAY-TO-DAY
- Underwrite in line with internal guides
- Manage broker relationships
- Control pipeline and renewals
- Report activity to Line Manager
- Support service delivery and underwriting standards
EXPERIENCE
- Background in household and/or commercial property underwriting
- Comfortable working with brokers (national & independent)
- Experience in an MGA is preferred but not essential
- Open to brokers or junior underwriters looking to move into a trading role

- Strong communicator (written & verbal)
- Confident negotiator and trader
- Good analytical and IT skills
- Sound underwriting judgement
- Well organised
- Can stay in control under pressure
