Lawes Consulting Group are partnering with a dynamic, growing Leeds based brokerage who is seeking an SME Team Leader to join the business. With responsibility for the day to day development, mentoring, and technical support of the SME unit, this role offers an exciting opportunity for either an experienced manager or potentially an ambitious handler looking to take that first step into a managerial position. You will be given a high degree of autonomy to implement your own managerial style, instigate new processes, improve systems, and really develop the position in a ‘hands on’ manner.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Managing a small portfolio of your own clients.
  • Performing one-to-ones, monthly reviews, and general monitoring of team performance.
  • Ensuring business is conducted in a compliant manner.
  • Managing new business inquiries and the renewal book in line with company procedures.
  • Ensuring the team’s documentation is kept fully updated and compliant.

DAY-TO-DAY

  • Ensuring the department’s workflow is handled effectively.
  • Liaising with other managers and departments where required to ensure business is placed correctly and compliantly.
  • Discussing upcoming renewals with the incumbent AEs where appropriate.
  • Building and maintaining strong working relationships with underwriters and insurer personnel.

EXPERIENCE

  • Previous managerial experience would be beneficial, but isn’t a prerequisite.
  • Experience of handling a range of SME commercial insurance products – ideally gained in an insurance broking environment.

SKILLS

  • The ability to lead, motivate, and develop a team.
  • Possess a good technical insurance knowledge to provide technical support to the team.
  • The ability to analyse data, investigate processes, and improve systems.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills with a client-focused approach.
  • Strong analytical and decision-making abilities.
  • Ability to work efficiently under pressure and meet deadlines.
