An exciting opportunity has arisen for an experienced Product Owner with proven Underwriting Workbench experience to join a major underwriting transformation programme within the insurance sector. This is a key role combining insurance, underwriting, technology and business transformation, with responsibility for representing business leadership and ensuring the programme delivers the right solutions and business outcomes. You will work closely with underwriting teams, business stakeholders, Agile development teams and technology partners to define requirements, prioritise delivery and ensure the transformation delivers maximum value.

As Product Owner – Underwriting Transformation, you will own the business requirements backlog and provide clear direction to Agile development teams throughout the programme. You will be responsible for defining and prioritising requirements, resolving delivery issues, supporting sprint planning and ensuring the overall solution remains aligned with the business strategy. Strong, proven experience with Underwriting Workbench is a mandatory requirement for this position.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Own the definition and prioritisation of business requirements.
  • Create, prioritise and maintain the requirements backlog.
  • Lead recommendations around release scope and sprint planning.
  • Work closely with business and workstream leads and external technology partners.
  • Act as the key escalation point for Agile development teams.
  • Resolve ambiguity, conflicting requirements and delivery blockers quickly.
  • Lead and coordinate underwriting Subject Matter Experts.
  • Provide guidance to Agile teams around strategy, scope, design and requirements.
  • Support Scrum Masters with effective prioritisation and sprint planning.
  • Ensure solution design and delivery remain aligned with the overall business case.
  • Review and approve key requirements, solution designs and testing approaches.
  • Support business sign-off of testing and delivery.
  • Work collaboratively across other programme workstreams.
  • Present sprint progress, key deliverables and issues to senior stakeholders.
  • Manage relationships with third-party suppliers and technology partners.
  • Support continuous improvement throughout the transformation programme.

You will be an experienced Product Owner or senior business change professional with a strong background in commercial insurance and underwriting technology. Underwriting Workbench experience is ESSENTIAL.

You will have:

  • Proven Underwriting Workbench experience – MUST HAVE.
  • Experience working as a Product Owner, Business Analyst or similar within an Agile environment.
  • Strong commercial insurance and underwriting knowledge.
  • Understanding of end-to-end General Insurance underwriting processes.
  • Experience delivering major technology or systems transformation projects.
  • Strong stakeholder management and communication skills.
  • Experience managing conflicting requirements and negotiating successful outcomes.
  • Experience working with third-party suppliers or Systems Integrators.
  • The ability to make timely decisions and provide clear direction to delivery teams.
  • Excellent communication skills with the ability to articulate complex requirements clearly.
  • A collaborative approach and the ability to work effectively across business and technology teams.

Qualifications:

A relevant professional qualification in insurance, underwriting or financial services, or equivalent practical experience, is essential. ACII, or working towards ACII, is preferred. PRINCE2 or an equivalent project/change qualification would also be advantageous.
