A leading global insurer is seeking an experienced Senior Financial Lines Underwriter to join its established underwriting team based in Manchester.

This is an opportunity to manage a substantial portfolio of complex renewal business while playing a key role in supporting the development of colleagues and maintaining strong broker relationships across the UK and Ireland market. The successful individual will underwrite a broad range of Financial Lines products, including Directors' & Officers' Liability, Employment Practices Liability, Pension Trustee Liability and Crime, with exposure to Professional Indemnity and Cyber risks.

Responsibilities

  • Manage and retain a portfolio of large and complex Financial Lines renewal accounts.
  • Deliver profitable underwriting decisions in line with company strategy, authority levels and underwriting standards.
  • Underwrite risks across D&O, EPL, Pension Trustee Liability, Crime and related Financial Lines products.
  • Develop and maintain strong broker relationships through regular engagement and market visits.
  • Identify opportunities to expand and cross-sell products across the wider commercial insurance portfolio.
  • Act as a technical referral point for less experienced team members.
  • Coach and mentor colleagues, supporting capability development across the underwriting team.
  • Collaborate with key internal stakeholders to drive performance and service excellence.
  • Maintain high standards of underwriting quality, customer service and operational efficiency.

Required Skills

  • A minimum of 5 years' Financial Lines underwriting experience.
  • Strong technical knowledge across D&O, EPL, Pension Trustee Liability and Crime.
  • Experience in either Professional Indemnity or Cyber would be advantageous.
  • Previous open market underwriting experience.
  • A proven ability to manage larger and more complex risks.
  • Strong broker development and relationship management skills.
  • Excellent communication, negotiation and stakeholder management abilities.
  • Experience supporting, coaching or mentoring colleagues.
  • Professional insurance qualifications (e.g. CII) would be beneficial but are not essential.
