Our client, a medium sized law firm in the West End are seeking an experienced librarian on a part time basis. Duties are as follows:
- To set up and maintain efficient library systems for the firm including the following:
- Manage the library budget, track expenditure per team and advise on likely annual expenditure per team.
- Develop and maintain relationships with suppliers, negotiate discounts where possible, resolve invoice discrepancies and monitor usage of online services.
- Order books from suppliers as required.
- Manage the firm's print and online subscriptions ensuring there is no duplication.
- Ensure that all looseleaf publications are updated with new releases.
- Maintain an online catalogue of all publications within the firm.
- Promote new materials to teams by circulating table of contents and new book alerts.
- Support legal staff by sourcing research material when required.
- Provide library induction training for fee earners and trainee solicitors.
- Maintain the library’s intranet pages.
- Monitor compliance with the copyright licence and ensure it is renewed annually.
- Attend regular meetings with the supervising partner to discuss individual publications, progress and development of systems.
- Update the Office Manual as required and maintain the Office Manual index and file plan.
- Provide administrative support to the Board in preparation for the annual Lexcel assessment.
Skills, knowledge and experience required for the job:
- Ability to establish and maintain good working relationships.
- Ability to present information simply and accurately, both orally and in writing.
- Ability to work methodically to deal with a constant flow of information with excellent attention to detail.
- Ability to maintain existing organisational systems and initiate improvements.
- Ability to work under pressure and prioritise work.
- Ability to work on own initiative without supervision.
- Numerate.
- Good telephone manner.
- Legible handwriting.
- Computer literate. Knowledge of Microsoft Office, Access databases and updating websites essential.
- Highly motivated and willing to take on new challenges.
- Helpful to have a legal background.
- An accredited would be advantageous but not essential.
The days are flexible but they need someone for 7 hours a week. This can be done in one day or over two. Looking for someone who is self sufficient and able to work autonomously and be flexible at times to assist on varying projects.
