PRIVATE CLIENT SOLICITOR 3 plus PQE

Location: Essex/London
Salary: £50,000 – £70,000 DOE

Our client is seeking an experienced Private Client Solicitor or Chartered Legal Executive to join the Wills Trusts & Probate Team. The role may be based at their head office in Essex, on a full-time or part-time basis.

The Role
Established role within the Private Client Department.

Proven background and demonstrable enthusiasm for Private Client work, including:

  1. Contentious Probate work, including claims under Inheritance (Provision for Family and Dependants Act) 1975.
  2. Preparation of Wills.
  3. Administration of Estates for business and private clients.
  4. Lifetime and Post-Death Tax Planning.
  5. Lasting Powers of Attorney.
  6. Court of Protection Orders.
  7. Residential and Nursing Care Issues.
  8. Trust formation and administration.

Excellent opportunity to gain skills and experience and contribute to the development of a long-established, forward-thinking, and expanding firm.
The role will also involve active participation in the firm’s marketing, article drafting, PR, business development, social media, and networking activities, as appropriate.

Your Experience & Technical Ability

  1. Circa 3 years + PQE.
  2. The STEP or SFE qualification would be preferred but is not essential.
  3. Knowledge of the law relating to Contested Wills and Inheritance Act claims.
  4. Demonstrable experience of successfully acting for clients in contentious Probate matters.
  5. Ability to advise and progress claims on behalf of a dependent under IPFDA 1975.
  6. Experience in various areas of dispute in Probate, including disputes over the validity of a Will, capacity of the testator, and disputes regarding estate administration and costs.
  7. Preparation of responses to a Larke v Nugus request.
  8. Understanding of the preparation of Wills, including measures aimed at asset protection and mitigation of tax.
  9. Fundamental principles of inheritance, capital gains, and income tax and their application in an estate planning context.
  10. Knowledge relating to formation, administration, and taxation of trusts; administration of estates; deeds of variation.
  11. Preparation and registration of Lasting Powers of Attorney; providing specialist advice for elderly clients.
  12. Ability and willingness to learn and manage workload efficiently and meet clients’ demanding requirements.
  13. Able to communicate very well in writing using correct grammar and plain English.
  14. Enthusiastic, willing, and a strong team player, with an excellent balance between technical ability and commercial awareness.
  15. Possess strong organizational and interpersonal skills and be IT proficient.
