The Law Society is the professional body for solicitors in England and Wales. Our Governance Officers support our elected and appointed members, who are solicitors drawn from a wide variety of legal practice and sectors of the community and help shape the direction and views of the Law Society.
There are currently two vacancies for Governance Officers within the Legal Policy Directorate. In these roles you will be responsible for providing an excellent secretariat service to our expert policy advisory committees. One role is a 12-month fixed term contract (maternity cover) which primarily supports the Criminal Law Committee, Human Rights Committee, and Family and Children Law Committee. The other role is a 12-month fixed term contract which primarily supports the Immigration Law Committee, Mental Health and Disability Committee, and the Wills and Equity Committee. Governance Officers also cover for one another on an ad-hoc basis during periods of annual leave or sickness.
What we're looking for:
- The ideal candidate will be highly organised and will have experience of preparing and supporting the running of large formal meetings.
- A knowledge of law and/or governance is not essential for this role but would be helpful particularly in dealing with the more technical aspects of committee business.
- You will have experience of taking minutes and will have excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- You will need to be able to pay attention to detail while managing competing priorities.
- You will have experience of working with senior stakeholders, ideally with those who, like our elected and appointed members, are managing their voluntary commitments to us alongside often busy professional lives.
- You will have IT literacy. We use MS Office 365 (including MS Teams for virtual meetings and collaboration). Appropriate training will be provided.
If you enjoy working in a fast-paced, stimulating policy environment, have prior experience of governance and believe this could be the right next role for you, please get in touch.
What's in it for you:
