Law Lane Solicitors is seeking an experienced, proactive, and highly organised Practice and Compliance Manager to oversee the firm’s regulatory compliance, operational procedures, risk management, and day-to-day practice support functions. This is an operational role requiring a strong understanding of legal practice management, SRA regulatory requirements, Lexcel compliance, file management procedures, and staff supervision within a busy multi-disciplinary law firm. The successful candidate will work closely with Directors, Solicitors, Heads of Department, HR, Accounts, and IT to ensure the firm maintains high professional standards, regulatory compliance, and efficient operational systems across all offices.

Key Responsibilities

  • Compliance & Regulatory
    • Oversee the firm’s compliance with SRA Standards and Regulations, Lexcel requirements, GDPR, AML obligations, and internal policies.
    • Monitor regulatory updates and implement necessary procedural changes.
    • Conduct regular file reviews, audits, and compliance checks across departments.
    • Maintain and update office manuals, policies, procedures, and risk registers.
    • Assist with complaints handling, risk management, and professional conduct matters.
    • Ensure proper client care, confidentiality, and data protection procedures are followed firm-wide.
    • Support Home Office sponsor licence compliance and related reporting obligations where required.
  • Practice Management
    • Support the smooth day-to-day operational running of the firm across all offices.
    • Monitor office procedures, workflows, and operational efficiencies.
    • Assist with implementation and management of case management systems, compliance software, and operational processes.
    • Liaise with Heads of Department regarding performance, compliance concerns, and operational matters.
    • Assist management with strategic planning and business improvement initiatives.
  • Staff Management & Training
    • Deliver compliance and procedural training to new and existing staff.
    • Assist with inductions relating to office procedures, compliance, file management, and legal practice systems.
    • Monitor staff adherence to firm policies and procedures.
    • Support HR with disciplinary, conduct, attendance, and performance-related matters where appropriate.
    • Promote a positive compliance culture throughout the firm.
  • Risk & Quality Assurance
    • Identify operational and regulatory risks and provide practical solutions.
    • Maintain records relating to audits, breaches, training, and compliance monitoring.
    • Assist with preparation for external audits, accreditations, and regulatory inspections.
    • Ensure corrective actions are implemented effectively following audits or reviews.

Requirements

  • Essential
    • Previous experience working within a law firm in a Practice Manager, Compliance Manager, Operations Manager, or similar role.
    • Strong understanding of SRA regulations, Lexcel standards, AML requirements, and GDPR obligations.
    • Excellent organisational and communication skills.
    • Ability to manage multiple priorities within a busy legal environment.
    • Strong attention to detail and problem-solving skills.
    • Confident in dealing with staff at all levels professionally and diplomatically.
    • Experience using legal case management systems.
  • Desirable
    • Previous experience within a multi-office law firm.
    • Knowledge of SRA, Law Society and Home Office compliance requirements.
    • Experience conducting file audits and compliance training.
    • Understanding of HR procedures and operational management.
