Law Lane Solicitors is seeking an organised, proactive, and commercially aware Practice & Compliance Manager to support the day‑to‑day running, compliance, and operational effectiveness of a busy multi‑disciplinary law firm. This is a hands‑on and varied role suited to someone with prior law firm management, SRA compliance, legal operations, or practice management experience who enjoys problem‑solving, improving systems, supporting teams, and maintaining regulatory standards. The successful candidate will work closely with senior management and fee earners to support compliance, complaints handling, operational efficiency, staff processes, and the smooth day‑to‑day running of the firm.

Key Responsibilities

  • Practice Management & Operations
    • Support the day‑to‑day operational management of the firm across departments.
    • Assist with workflow coordination and office operations to ensure smooth service delivery.
    • Monitor systems, procedures, and operational efficiencies.
    • Work closely with supervisors and senior management on practice management matters.
    • Assist in improving processes, systems, and internal controls.
  • Compliance & Risk Management
    • Support compliance with SRA Standards and Regulations, Law Society requirements, legal aid requirements, and internal policies.
    • Assist with file reviews, audits, risk registers, compliance monitoring, and internal checks.
    • Support regulatory reporting, policy implementation, and compliance training.
    • Monitor complaints handling procedures and ensure complaints are recorded and progressed appropriately.
    • Assist with GDPR, confidentiality, AML, conflicts, and information governance procedures.
  • Complaints & Client Care
    • Support the firm’s complaints handling process and maintain complaint logs.
    • Work alongside management to identify themes, risks, and service improvements.
    • Assist with client care standards and service quality improvements.
  • Staff & Training Support
    • Coordinate compliance‑related staff training and awareness sessions.
    • Support induction and internal compliance guidance for staff.
    • Assist supervisors and teams with operational and compliance queries.
  • Systems & Administration
    • Work with legal case management systems (LEAP desirable).
    • Maintain compliance records, registers, policies, trackers, and internal documentation.
    • Prepare management reports and updates where required.

Skills & Experience Required

  • Previous experience within a law firm in practice management, compliance, legal operations, risk, or office management.
  • Strong understanding of SRA compliance and law firm procedures.
  • Experience dealing with complaints handling, file reviews, audits, or regulatory processes.
  • Excellent organisational and communication skills.
  • Strong attention to detail and ability to manage competing priorities.
  • Practical, proactive, and solutions‑focused approach.
  • Confident liaising with fee earners, supervisors, and senior management.

Desirable

  • Experience in CQS Lexcel, insurances, GDPR, AML, or regulatory audits.
  • Experience using LEAP or legal case management systems.
  • Prior experience in complaints handling and operational improvement.
