We have a well‑established global Marketing and Business Development (M&BD) team which supports the firm on a wide range of business development, client relationship management and reputational activities. The team operates across several key areas including Clients and Sectors covering Sector M&BD (where this role sits) and Client Development; Practice M&BD; Communications, which comprises Public Relations, Brand, Design, Events, Content and Digital; Operations and Systems, which manages strategic global pitches and operations; and Client and Market Solutions, a team dedicated to managing and driving forward firm‑wide profile building initiatives and strategic growth opportunities.

Working Hours: 35 hours per week, 9:30am to 5:30pm but additional hours may be required. We are happy to consider agile and flexible working patterns. Our approach to hybrid working allows for up to 40% of time working from home and 60% working in the office.

Role Overview: We need a self‑motivated and enthusiastic M&BD Senior Adviser to support on M&BD activities for the Financial Institutions Sector, specifically the Digital Assets and Blockchain (DAB) and FinTech practices and Financial Services practice areas (including support to the Hogan Lovells Consulting team). This is an exciting opportunity to be part of a supportive and close‑knit team, operating across a broad remit across new and emerging markets. You will play a critical role in supporting client development and profile raising initiatives globally, to ensure we:

  • Deliver on the profile raising initiatives and objectives laid out in the FIS, DAB, FinTech and Financial Services business plans.
  • Maximise our opportunities to grow our revenues from existing and prospective clients across the sector.
  • Raise the firm’s profile and position within our key markets.
  • Leverage and coordinate our people, knowledge and resources in an effective and efficient manner.

The role will encompass the full range of M&BD activities including: pitching, producing credentials and other marketing collateral; client targeting and cross‑selling; client / sector and competitor analysis; and profile raising through marketing campaigns including events, communications and directory and awards submissions. This candidate will work closely with other members of our global M&BD team to ensure that global M&BD programmes support the firm and sector priorities.

Key Responsibilities: Specific duties or responsibilities may be reviewed from time to time to reflect changes in personnel and management structure, staff location or services. All members of the firm participate in our Responsible Business program.

  • BD Planning and Analysis: Supporting the global sector and practice leads on the formulation and execution of time bound, objective‑driven integrated campaigns and supporting on business development plans. Working with partners to develop and implement BD activities in accordance with proposed plans and budgets.
  • Pitching, Targeting and New Business Generation: Leading responses to RFPs, customised pitches, and business development presentations across the DAB, FinTech and Financial Services Practice areas, coordinating with colleagues at all levels. Writing and producing other bespoke materials, including client presentations. Collating and retaining information on the firm‑wide Global Pitch System, monitoring success rates and making recommendations for improvements. Ensuring there is a structured approach in place for maintaining up‑to‑date M&BD information and knowledge, such as credentials and pitches, and for sharing best practices across the group, including supporting in the roll out and embedding of the firm’s deal management system, Foundation.
  • Client Targeting and Development: Supporting on the development and delivery of client targeting initiatives and analysis. Supporting client relationship management initiatives and client listening programmes. Actively supporting our FIS sector on delivery and execution of priority items from the sector business plan. Leading and driving growth for our FinTech Mentor Program. Attending and hosting networking events, building relationships with members and alums of the Program by conducting client feedback exercises. Supporting on our external strategic partnerships including assisting and / or leading co‑branded events.
  • Events, Marketing Campaigns, Thought Leadership and Profile Raising: Leading cross‑practice specific events for FIS clients, showcasing the firm's work on FinTech, InsurTech and Digital Assets, in particular supporting the delivery of our annual flagship Digital Assets Summit in London. Liaising with the Events team to coordinate and oversee client events / seminars. Coordinating and promoting best practice, integrated BD strategies including media relations, events, seminars, newsletters, white papers / thought leadership. Working on the practice directories as required, ensuring partner teams are consulted and reviewing and updating practice area submissions for directories, legal supplements, etc. ensuring that deadlines for submissions and referees are met. Writing, editing and producing marketing communications including credentials statements, presentations, newsletters and website and social media copy. Liaising and collaborating with other BD teams including Practice Groups, Sector teams to cross sell capabilities and credentials. Proactively coordinating with PR to raise the profile of individual partners and propositions through press releases and deal announcements. Supporting on building and managing relationships with key industry bodies in the sector.
  • Internal Communication and Knowledge Sharing: Ensuring that there is an efficient framework for internal reporting and communication of M&BD activities and successes, including the provision of information for wider management reporting. Working closely with the partners and Knowledge Lawyer team to leverage know how and promote sector capabilities across the firm, including through newsletters and the intranet.
  • Infrastructure and Marketing Systems: Collating and maintaining matter information for pitches / proposals, credentials, intranet / web content, etc. Maintaining and regularly assessing key BD information systems and library of materials including Foundation, the pitch log, intranet pages, hoganlovells.com and credentials. Liaising and working closely with the knowledge lawyers to leverage know how and identify appropriate communications and BD opportunities.
  • Wider BD Projects: Contributing to the wider business development effort, which will include participating in specific firm‑wide BD initiatives and projects as required. Contributing to the firm’s strategic priorities and broader Future of Digitalisation and Future of Finance efforts. Overseeing and contributing to wider M&BD projects as required.

Skills & Experience:

  • Essential: Previous experience of working in a marketing and business development role in a professional services firm. Some exposure to sector marketing and business development. A solid understanding of the commercial world and its drivers.
  • Desired: Prior knowledge and experience of working in a law firm and / or exposure to the financial services sector would be advantageous.
