Job Role & Responsibilities
- Delivery of Pension Trustee services:
- Developing a portfolio of pension scheme trusteeships and taking day‐to‐day responsibility for the schemes in your portfolio.
- Providing support as "cover" for other designated schemes in accordance with Law Debenture's policy statement in relation to peer reviews and peer support.
- Working with colleagues on pension schemes where there are multiple Law Debenture trustees, for example, acting on a corporate sole trustee appointment or as chair or co‐trustee on sub‐committees or working parties where you may have particular expertise.
- Working alongside colleagues in our Pegasus (governance) business on project work on pension schemes involved in particular exercises, e.g. buy‐ins and other insurance transactions, funding discussions, liability management exercises, corporate restructurings, service provider reviews.
- Taking responsibility for collecting and disseminating information on one or more technical areas relating to pension trusteeship.
- For the purposes of the above, to act as a director of The Law Debenture Pension Trust Corporation p.l.c.
- Business development and client care:
- Helping to grow and market our pension trustee and Pegasus businesses, including securing new client opportunities from own personal network.
- Networking, maintaining and developing external relationships to support business growth.
- Developing marketing content – LinkedIn, website, service line brochures, case studies, blog content.
- Managing client/commercial relationships (e.g. responding to RFPs, client agreements, invoicing).
- Representing Law Debenture on external bodies and at external events, e.g. conferences, seminars, debates.
- Team Management & Leadership:
- Participate and assist in the development of the Pension Trustee Team, including providing support, sharing knowledge and developing practices and procedures.
- General Duties:
- Contribute fully to the development and growth of the LawDeb business.
- Undertake training and development as appropriate and engage fully in the performance management process.
- Contribute to the LawDeb culture positively, attend meetings as required, and carry out duties willingly and diligently.
- Where regulatory rules apply, abide by these in spirit and fact.
- Carry out such other tasks as you may be reasonably directed to do by the senior management team from time to time.
Essential Knowledge, Skills & Experience
- Appropriate professional qualifications, APMI, actuarial, legal depending on area of specialisation.
- Completion of TPR's Trustee Toolkit and PMI Award in Trusteeship (or willingness to do so within 6 months of appointment).
- Existing Pensions Trustee experience (for example as a member or employer‐nominated trustee) highly desirable as well as relevant experience at a senior level in the Pensions Industry.
- Demonstrable commercial approach.
- Strong experience of all types of occupational pension schemes/knowledge of pensions market.
- Business development experience.
- Ability to lead Board meetings and work well at Board level.
- High standards of professionalism, integrity and ability to maintain confidentiality.
- Generously collaborative, with excellent relationship‐building ability and a clear focus on client care.
- A confident, articulate communicator both written and oral.
- Able to work with little supervision on own initiative and outside of comfort zone.
- A "sleeves‐rolled‐up" style of working; pro‐active in continuously striving for improvements.
- Comfortable expressing an alternative view, evaluating advice (and advisers) and proposing a way forward.
- Taking accountability for own professional knowledge and progress.
