Salary range: NJC scale SP29–33, £44,235–£47,925 (pro rata if part time; starting salary dependent on experience)

Hours: 35 hours per week – applications for 28 hours per week will also be considered

Term: Permanent (some maternity cover in first year of role)

Location: Hybrid, with a permanent base at our Camberwell office and an expectation of at least two days per week office based work

Southwark Law Centre provides specialist legal advice and representation to individuals and communities across a range of social welfare law. Our public law work includes complex judicial review and other public law challenges, including cases arising from immigration and asylum matters and across the Law Centre’s wider areas of practice.

We are seeking an experienced Public Law Solicitor to undertake complex public law casework and help supervise and develop public law work across the Law Centre.

  • The successful applicant will manage their own caseload, including judicial review proceedings, and act as a Legal Aid Agency supervisor for our Public Law contract. They will provide casework supervision and technical support to colleagues, help identify potential public law challenges across our practice areas, and contribute to the quality and development of our public law work.
  • Substantial recent experience of public law casework and judicial review, including urgent proceedings and applications for interim relief.
  • Experience of public law challenges arising from immigration and asylum matters.
  • Significant experience of conducting publicly funded casework and using CCMS.
  • Experience of conducting complex public law litigation and supervising legal casework.
  • The ability to meet the Legal Aid Agency supervisor requirements for the Public Law category immediately on appointment.
