Are you an experienced Contracts & Procurement Lawyer looking for a role where your expertise will shape the future of a dynamic London borough? Our client is seeking a talented legal commercial contracts and procurement professional to join their high‑performing team on a permanent basis. This role is full-time for 36 hours per week.
As a Contracts & Procurement Lawyer, you will provide a comprehensive, professional legal service across all aspects of contracts and public procurement. You’ll be a key source of specialist advice for departments across the Council, supporting senior officers and elected members to deliver high‑quality, legally sound services for our residents.
This is a varied and influential role where you will:
- Handle a full caseload of contract and procurement matters independently
- Draft, review and negotiate a wide range of contracts
- Advise on procurement strategy and compliance, including Standing Orders and governance
- Support committees, prepare reports, and brief senior stakeholders
- Keep the organisation updated on new legislation and case law
- Contribute to policy development, templates, precedents and training materials
- Represent the Council in meetings with internal teams, partners, government bodies and external organisations
The council is looking for a proactive and skilled legal professional who can bring sound judgement and clear, confident advice. You must have commercial contracts and procurement experience to be considered for the role. You will have:
- A qualification as a Solicitor, Barrister or FILEX (or equivalent). Ideally 3+ PQE.
- Substantial experience in contracts and procurement, ideally within local government
- Strong knowledge of contract law, public procurement and local authority powers
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- The ability to manage a busy caseload independently
- A collaborative mindset, with the ability to guide and support junior colleagues
- A commitment to excellent customer service and the Council’s equality principles
