A fast-growing, technology-led healthcare business is seeking a Privacy & Commercial Counsel / DPO to join its legal team on a maternity cover contract.

This is a 9-month minimum maternity cover contract, starting late August or early September.

Reporting to

  • Head of Legal
  • Duration : 9 months

The Role

  • Act as Data Protection Officer and lead UK privacy compliance.
  • Advise on DPIAs, data transfers, incident response, privacy-by-design and broader GDPR matters.
  • Liaise with regulators and support privacy governance programmes.
  • Draft and negotiate privacy and commercial agreements with suppliers and partners.
  • Provide practical legal advice on commercial matters and risk management.
  • Deliver privacy training across the business.
  • Manage a Data Privacy Manager.
  • Support policy, template, and playbook development.
  • Partner with senior stakeholders across multiple business functions.

Requirement

  • UK qualified lawyer with in-house experience.
  • 3+ years PQE from a leading law firm and/or established in-house legal team.
  • Strong knowledge of UK privacy and data protection law.
  • Experience drafting and negotiating commercial contracts.
  • Commercially minded with a pragmatic approach to legal risk.
  • Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills.
  • Experience in healthcare, life sciences, technology, or digitally regulated sectors is desirable
  • Exposure to health regulatory matters is desirable
