About The Role
As a Principal Process Engineer you will be responsible for leading the delivery of all Process Engineering requirements across either a single large/complex project or multiple medium sized/complexity projects. Delivering project requirements individually or as a leader of a team. Actively participates in the development of more junior engineers. You will report to the Project Engineering Manager and be located at Westlakes.
Key Responsibilities
- Act as the project's single point of authority and accountability for the process engineering discipline.
- Lead a multi-disciplined engineering team reporting to the Project Manager and working closely with the clients responsible engineering team.
- Responsible for the development of key design deliverables such as Process drawings: Process Flow Diagrams and Process & Instrumentation Diagrams/Engineering Flow Diagrams.
- Check and approve calculations including mass, energy and flow balances, pipe and equipment sizing.
- Ensure that design deliverables are of a high standard and compliant with relevant standards, regulations and customer specific standards.
- Ensure that design consultants and sub-contractors deploy suitably qualified and experienced personnel.
- Produce documentation that is technically accurate, grammatically correct, correctly formatted and professionally presented.
- Prepare and review quality plans for multi or single discipline work packages.
- Ensure work delivered is within the defined scope and completed to time and budget.
- Manage resolutions to technical issues and ensure necessary change control is implemented and address commercial impacts.
Qualifications
- At least 8+ years' experience in industry, at least 3 years at Senior Engineer level.
- Ideally 5+ years in the nuclear industry or other highly regulated sector.
- Bachelor's degree or higher in Chemical Engineering, Chemistry or associated discipline.
- Chartered Member of the IChemE.
- Detailed knowledge of standards, regulations, codes and directives and how they should be applied including (but not limited to) Pressure Equipment Regulations, COMAH, COSHH, DSEAR etc.
- Proven knowledge of the theories, principles, practices and techniques of process design.
- Ability to undertake technical tasks and also disclose their technical limitations.
- Willingness to mentor more junior engineers and designers.
- Ability to work well with all levels of management, executive leadership and support staff.
