Cheadle Hulme High School are seeking an enthusiastic and inspiring Teacher of Chemistry to join our forward-thinking Science department and work with outstanding Chemistry Teachers. This is an exciting opportunity for either an experienced teacher or an ECT with a passion for Chemistry and a commitment to delivering engaging, high-quality lessons. The successful candidate will teach Chemistry across KS3 and KS4. We are looking for someone who can spark curiosity, foster a love of learning, and support students in achieving excellent outcomes.

At Cheadle Hulme High School we deliver an ambitious, challenging curriculum that builds powerful knowledge and mastery of key concepts. We aim to spark curiosity, support scientific enquiry and provide enrichment opportunities, ensuring all students gain the understanding and confidence needed to succeed in life and pursue science beyond Key Stage 4. Chemistry at Cheadle Hulme High School gives students a solid understanding of core concepts across chemistry and physics.

Our curriculum includes learning about atomic structure, including electron configuration and the location, charge and mass of subatomic particles. Through the particle model, pupils explore the differences between atoms, molecules and compounds, and how particles behave in solids, liquids and gases. They develop confidence using the Periodic Table, recognising symbols, spotting trends and linking these patterns to electron configuration. Students are taught to write word and symbol equations, understand conservation of mass and study key reactions such as neutralisation, combustion, oxidation and displacement. They learn about energy changes in reactions, including endothermic and exothermic processes and why reactions need energy to begin. Strong emphasis is placed on practical skills, from using scientific equipment and drawing diagrams to interpreting data, recognising hazard symbols and working safely. Alongside this, pupils build essential maths skills such as ratio, percentages, graph work and basic arithmetic, supporting their wider scientific understanding.
