The medical receptionist role is often the first person our patients see. We are seeking to recruit a part-time, highly motivated and enthusiastic person. The successful candidate will work alongside the clinical team and management team to provide a high standard of medical receptionist duties to our patients.

The successful candidate will possess excellent communication skills, IT skills, and clerical abilities. They will have the ability to prioritise their own workload as well as work as part of a team.

Main duties of the job:
  • Greet patients and visitors to the practice.
  • Book in, amend, and cancel patient appointments in line with practice appointment procedures.
  • Receive and accurately record requests for home visits, assessing urgency in accordance with the practice's protocols.
  • Print off home visit summary sheets.
  • Ensure the computerised appointment system is up-to-date.
  • Respond and/or redirect all patient and visitor requests accordingly.
  • Explain practice arrangements and formal requirements to new patients and temporary residents, ensuring procedures are completed.
  • Set up new patients onto the computer system.
  • Ensure correspondence, reports, results, etc. are filed electronically in the correct patient record.
  • Answer incoming telephone calls, ensuring calls are documented and redirected accordingly.
  • Undertake administration tasks as allocated by management and other clinical teams.
  • Action start and end of day procedures.
  • Ensure up-to-date maintenance of both computerised and manual filing systems (i.e. patient notes).
  • Check emails and electronic document systems daily to ensure all tasks are actioned.
  • Regularly check tasks and emails on the system to ensure all messages have been actioned.

About us: Laurel Bank Surgery is currently serving approximately 7500 patients, with a team consisting of 3 partners, salaried GPs, a nursing team, healthcare assistants, and a management and admin team. We host primary care network staff in our practice and we are also a teaching practice.

Job responsibilities:
  • Work as part of the team with the team leader and deputy manager to provide great quality patient care to our patients.
  • Answer telephone calls in the morning.
  • Ensure that the surgery is opened safely in the morning and closed in the afternoon.
  • Take queries from patients and resolve them with help from the clinical team.
  • Manage day-to-day workload, ensuring incoming post has been allocated to the right team and assigned to the clinical team.
  • Process referrals from surgery to secondary care systems.
  • Ensure medical reports requested are processed in a timely manner.
Person Specification:Experience:
  • Experience of dealing with vulnerable patients.
  • Experience of working in a GP practice.
Qualifications:
  • Good standard of education.
  • Willingness to learn new skills and adapt as no day is the same in general practice.
