ROLE OVERVIEW
The Senior Laravel Web Developer is an expert problem-solver who thrives in a fast-paced environment implementing robust scalable and secure Laravel applications using modern PHP OOP and Laravel best practices. They will write high quality maintainable code which will power solutions and successfully handle large traffic volumes to deliver an outstanding experience for our players. In addition to application development, the Senior Laravel Web Developer will have a high-level understanding of AWS infrastructure and cloud-based architectures. They will be comfortable working with AWS-hosted databases (such as RDS Aurora and DynamoDB), understanding how cloud architecture scalability and performance optimization impact application design. The role also involves awareness of deployment processes, environment management and security best practices within AWS to ensure systems remain reliable, secure and scalable as the platform grows. They will work cross functionally and collaboratively providing leadership, innovation and technical insights.
RESPONSIBILITIES
- Design, architect and implement robust scalable and secure Laravel applications using modern PHP OOP and Laravel best practices.
- Lead the full software development lifecycle - from planning and architecture through delivery and post-launch support.
- Lead building and consuming RESTful APIs and other integration endpoints for internal systems.
- Drive technical design decisions choosing appropriate patterns, libraries and tools to meet performance and scale goals.
- Write clean, maintainable and well-documented code that adheres to PSR standards and internal coding guidelines.
- Review code written by team members and consultants providing constructive feedback and championing best practices.
- Implement automated testing strategies.
- Use version control systems for managing code changes, branching, merging and maintaining project history.
- Identify and resolve performance blocks, optimise database queries and refine application architecture for improved responsiveness.
- Ensure applications follow security best practices including proper authentication, authorisation, data validation and protection against common vulnerabilities.
- Utilise Laravel features such as caching, queues, jobs and event systems to improve reliability and system throughput.
- Manage or support production deployments and monitor application health, availability and performance post-launch.
- Help establish and refine team processes, coding standards and documentation practices.
- Act as a technical leader offering insights to wider team.
- Liaise with cross-functional teams to ensure shared understanding of requirements and priorities.
- Collaborate with frontend developers, product designers and UX designers to translate business requirements into efficient technical solutions and seamlessly connect user interfaces with server-side.
- Communicate progress, risks and technical issues clearly and proactively to Leadership team.
- Contribute to or maintain technical documentation covering APIs, architecture decisions and deployment processes.
REQUIREMENTS
ESSENTIAL
- Proven experience approximately 5 years of production experience with Laravel Applications handling large traffic volumes.
- Proven ability to create, maintain and implement digital solutions in Laravel using integrated tools such as filament php.
- Demonstrated ability to scale web applications and infrastructure ensuring high performance, security and reliability as user base and data volume grow.
- High-level understanding of AWS infrastructure including: AWS-hosted databases (e.g. RDS Aurora, DynamoDB), Cloud architecture scalability and performance optimisation, Deployment environment management and security best practices on AWS.
- Deep understanding of PHP and OOP.
- Familiarity with database systems (SQL).
- Proficient in web technologies including Livewire, Tailwind, Javascript etc.
- Experience building and integrating with RESTful APIs.
- Proficiency in version control (e.g. Git).
- Understanding of frontend development and frameworks (HTML, CSS).
- DevOps knowledge.
