We are working in partnership with a high-performing secondary school in Luton to appoint an outstanding Assistant Headteacher (Pastoral) to join its senior leadership team to start April or September. This is a pivotal whole-school role, responsible for shaping and leading the school’s pastoral strategy, behaviour culture, safeguarding practice and student wellbeing, while contributing to the wider strategic leadership of the school.

The Role

  • Lead the design, implementation and review of whole-school pastoral systems and policies.
  • Champion a culture of high expectations, positive behaviour and strong relationships across the school community.
  • Act as Deputy Designated Safeguarding Lead, ensuring robust safeguarding systems and timely action on concerns.
  • Use data and insight to monitor attendance, behaviour and wellbeing trends, informing targeted support and intervention.
  • Line manage and develop key pastoral and support staff, ensuring consistent practice and high professional standards.
  • Work in close partnership with senior leaders, governors and external agencies to improve outcomes for all pupils, including vulnerable and disadvantaged learners.
  • Contribute to school improvement planning and deliver high-quality teaching alongside leadership responsibilities.
