Job Summary
Graduate Sports Assistant (Fixed Term Appointment August 2026 – July 2027)
We would like to invite interested candidates to apply for the Graduate Sports Assistant role, commencing in September 2026. Graduate Sports Assistants play a significant role in the coaching of sport in the school and work closely with the PE office assisting the PE teachers with lessons and coaching across several different sporting activities. They are expected to be available at all times that school sport takes place, including weekends during term-time. Ideally, they will be a specialist in one or more of the school’s major sports of hockey, rugby, football, cricket, netball, rowing and/or swimming and will have some experience supporting girls’ sports activities.
Coaching Duties
- Coaching sports sessions before school, lunchtimes, after school, and on Saturdays
- Taking charge of teams and umpiring/refereeing fixtures (involves organising pupils and communicating with parents to ensure accurate fixture details)
- Assisting and supporting Games afternoons and PE lessons
- General administration duties such as selecting teams on SOCS and communicating with students, staff and parents
- Setting up equipment to support the sports programme
Duties within the PE / Sports department
- Assisting PE staff with lessons and coaching sessions (including Prep)
- Assisting in ensuring the smooth running of the department, including some secretarial and administrative duties (photocopying, lesson materials, forms, and displays)
- Maintaining good order and discipline among the pupils and safeguarding their health and safety
- Creating notices and maintaining the sports notice boards
- Carrying out equipment checks
- Assisting with sports department marketing – contributing to sports dept social media posts and collating information for the termly sports newsletter
37.5 hrs per week Monday to Friday, 37 weeks per year (term time, plus INSED / Pre‑season, plus 2 weeks.)
