About The Role

The OGC Lawyer- Conflicts and Compliance is an integral part of Latham’s Office of the General Counsel team. This role will be responsible for supporting a number of compliance programs including new business and conflicts intake and general regulatory risk management, while developing and maintaining substantive knowledge of and familiarity with the legal ethics, and professional responsibility rules applicable in the firm’s geographic jurisdictions, particularly those outside of the United States, while also understanding Latham’s procedures, policies, and practices relating to conflicts and other ethical issues. This role will be located in our London office. Please note that this role may be eligible for a flexible working schedule that allows for a hybrid and in-office presence.

Responsibilities & Qualifications

  • Assisting senior lawyers and other Conflicts Department staff in identifying, evaluating, and resolving ethical and business conflict issues relating to conflicts checks for laterals and new business.
  • Performing legal research and analysis projects relating to conflicts or other aspects of ethics and/or professional responsibility as requested by the Senior Assistant General Counsels.
  • Taking responsibility for general risk management programs, such as file audits, accountant’s letters, and contract review.
  • Assisting with the review and analysis of Outside Counsel Guidelines, Engagement Letters, and other terms of engagement with firm clients.
  • Assisting various stakeholders in researching and analysing complex ethics and compliance questions.

  • Exhibit highly developed and professional interpersonal skills, as well as the ability to interact effectively with people at all organisational levels of the firm.
  • Demonstrate the ability to work in a team environment.
  • Display the willingness to work in a hybrid style, with the majority of the days being in the office.

And have:

  • A minimum of 3 years of post-qualification experience.
  • Qualification as a solicitor, barrister, or an equivalent foreign lawyer with an unfettered right to practice in their home jurisdiction.
  • An active practising certificate or local bar membership.
  • Experience working in a conflicts team.
  • General law firm compliance experience.
