About the Role

The Proofreader is an integral part of Latham’s Global Document Services (GLODOCS) team. This role will be responsible for ensuring the accuracy of department work product including revisions, original input, and conversions, while leveraging traditional proofreading skills and correction technologies (redlines, Contract Companion reports, and Microsoft Word find/replace routines) to proofread department work product for accuracy and grammatical sense. This role will be located in our Manchester office. Please note that this role may be eligible for a flexible working schedule that allows for a hybrid and in-office presence. Please also note, the schedule for this role will be Sunday – Thursday. Sunday 7.00am – 3.00pm and Monday – Thursday 8.00am – 4.00pm.

Responsibilities & Qualifications

  • Examining documents for correct and consistent formatting and adherence to house style standards
  • Correcting spelling and grammar (UK and US English) and suggesting alternatives to incorrect grammar and awkward syntax
  • Inputting text edits using Microsoft (MS) Office applications
  • Acting as a quality control point person for large projects requiring consistent formatting across multiple documents
  • Promoting effective work practices, working as a team member, and showing respect for co-workers

We’d love to hear from you if you:

  • Demonstrate core-level knowledge and correct application of proofreading symbols
  • Possess core-level knowledge of MS Windows and MS Office applications, with the ability to edit on-screen using Track Changes
  • Display strong communication skills, both oral and written, including excellent language skills (reading, grammar, spelling, and vocabulary)

And have:

  • A high school diploma or equivalent
  • A bachelor’s degree or equivalent (preferred)
  • Prior relevant experience in a law firm or other professional services firm (preferred)
