Latham House Medical Practice,one of the UKs largest doctors surgeries, are looking for a committed, innovative,and enthusiastic Clinical Coder to join our semi-rural Practice based in the towncentre of Melton Mowbray.
Main duties of the job
The successful candidate shouldbe self-motivated, highly organised and methodical. As a member of thePractices Coding Team, the post-holder will screen all incoming medicalletters and electronically file and summarise patients medical notes,highlighting clinician action where relevant.

Job responsibilities
It is the responsibility of each Clinical Coder toscreen all incoming medical letters, entering key data and selecting anddirecting appropriate information for GPs attention adhering to the practicepolicy. The role will involve electronically filing and summarising patientsmedical notes. The roles and responsibilities, along with the potential for remote working, may change according to the businessrequirements.
Clinical
Reviewingall incoming correspondence, sorting clinical letters, filing documents andentering pertinent information into the patients electronic medical record inaccordance with the Practice Protocol
Ensuringall QOF related data is captured
Highlightingclinician action and workflow to appropriate clinician or team as per PracticeProtocol
Tocorrect errors in filing and ensure corresponding records are amendedaccurately
Ensuringmedical records are kept organised and up to date
Summarising new patient records to a high standardand according to set protocols and timescales agreed by the Practice.
Recognisingown knowledge limits and seek advice from clinical or administrative colleaguesas appropriate.
To carryout administrative related tasks as delegated by the Clinical Lead and OperationsManager
Toundertake any other reasonable tasks as allocated by the line manager and/orPartners. This job description reflects the immediate requirements andobjectives of the post and is not exhaustive

Havingacquired the required level of knowledge and understanding of the Practicesprotocols, policies and procedures; the post-holder is required to support,promote and adhere to all of the Practices policies

In theperformance of the duties outlined in this Job Description, the post-holder mayhave access to confidential information relating to patients and their carers,practice staff and other healthcare workers. They may also have access toinformation relating to the practice as a business organisation. All suchinformation from any source is to be regarded and managed as strictlyconfidential. Additionally, the post-holder will be respectful and courteous tocolleagues and patients, for example knocking on doors prior to entry.

Person Specification
Qualifications
- Good standard of education with 5 GCSEs or equivalent or experience in a similar post
Skills
- Able to establish, maintain and develop effective communications across the Practice and with external organisations.
- Excellent oral and written communication skills; able to engage effectively with a wide range of audiences.
- Ability to analyse and interpret information.
- Methodically and accurate approach to work with attention to detail.
- Excellent time management skills, capable of prioritising and managing competing demands and workloads.
- Able to work under pressure
- Good problem-solving skills.
Experience
- Experience of working with GP clinical information and systems such as EMIS, SystmOne, or hospital coding environment.
- Recent and relevant experience of primary care
- Evidence of capacity to work in an office autonomously and as part of a team.
Knowledge
- Possess a broad knowledge of anatomy and physiology, and medical terminology.
- Good, knowledge of IT programs such as Microsoft Office, Excel, Word, Powerpoint, Outlook and databases.
- A good knowledge of working with GP clinical systems such as EMIS/SystmOne, Docman.
- Understanding of the NHS/Primary Care Services
- Knowledge of confidentiality in the workplace/information governance.

- Satisfactory completion of an enhanced check through the Vetting and Barring Service (this will be taken up if offered the post).
