About the Role
The experienced Senior Mechanical Engineer plays a key role in contributing expert design input to assigned projects and ensuring that all technical requirements and discipline-specific deliverables meet the company’s high standards. Leveraging their experience, they provide support and guidance to colleagues across various disciplines and, where appropriate, take on coordination and technical supervision of team members within their discipline on a project-by-project basis. They may also assume an active coordination role, overseeing teams of engineers and design engineers while continuing to fulfill their core responsibilities. The role involves actively managing the quality of work produced and contributing to the evolution and enhancement of standards and processes, under the guidance of the discipline lead. Additionally, the Senior Mechanical Engineer supports and helps to develop new ideas, innovative designs, and improved working methods as part of the company’s ongoing commitment to R&D and continuous improvement.
About You
- Essential: Minimum of 8 years relevant experience in the marine industry.
- Self-motivation and time management to meet agreed targets and deliverables deadlines.
- Personal time planning, including feedback to support in the definition of resource requirements, time budgets and deliverables deadlines.
- Proven ability to process technical problems and effectively seek out the correct technical solution using sound engineering judgement.
- Commercial awareness, with the ability to ensure that works are being carried out and completed to an appropriate standard and level of detail, measured against the contracted deliverables and tracked against the agreed budget.
- The ability to produce clear and well-presented drawings and plans to a suitable quality and standard.
- Desirable: 2D CAD (AutoCAD) to produce design information (Advanced skill level).
- 2D/3D CAD and other specialist software as required to produce and to review design information.
- MS Office to develop reports, spreadsheet data and presentation information.
- Knowledge and understanding of statutory regulations and Classification and Flag rule sets.
- Knowledge and experience of ship systems design and its impact upon integration, preferably with direct shipyard experience.
- Knowledge and understanding of ship structural design and its impact upon integration.
- Knowledge and understanding of system design theory & an understanding of the design lifecycle.
- Knowledge and active interest in current and new technology and innovation in Naval Architecture and related fields.
