We have a fantastic opportunity for an experienced lawyer to join our legal team as Senior Legal Counsel, on an interim basis, on a 1-year Fixed Term Contract.
You will be responsible for providing legal support on all legal matters associated with Last Mile operations, ranging from design and build activities, to owning, operating and maintaining utilities infrastructure across Great Britain. You will be an integral legal partner on a range of projects.
You will have had previous exposure to commercial contracts and ideally exposure to all or some of the following areas, including construction contracts, energy and infrastructure projects, with ambition to develop expertise in other areas such as regulation, compliance and corporate matters. Legal work in the group spans across all Last Mile operations ranging from design and build activities through to owning, operating and maintaining utilities infrastructure.
This role will report into the Director for Legal & Governance (Michael Davies) for the Last Mile Group. Michael has over 21 years of energy and utilities sector experience gained from both senior in‑house energy roles and private practice.

Your responsibilities as Senior Legal Counsel:
- Exposure to a wide variety of legal, regulatory and compliance matters
- Construction, commercial & procurement contracts
- Licence obligations & regulation
- Assisting with corporate activities and corporate governance
- Assisting with property queries
- Anti‑bribery & corruption
- Data Protection
- Anti‑money Laundering
- Other compliance & regulatory issues
Candidate Requirements
- Demonstrable experience within a commercial, construction or infrastructure projects area of law
- Ideally some experience gained in regulation, compliance and corporate governance matters
- Excellent technical skills with good grasp of legal principles and ability to apply them to deliver concise and pragmatic legal advice
- Understand the importance of reputational management and providing advice accordingly
- Proficient in IT, with exceptional knowledge of core operational functions and principles, including commercial, logistics, engineering, and employee management
- Proven ability to analyse, manage and improve existing operational processes and systems for maximum efficiency, productivity, and resilience
- Working knowledge of construction industry regulations and legislation
- Demonstrable experience of delivering process change and of continuous improvement
- Utilities experience, in particular with independent licensed utility operators, would be viewed positively, though is not essential
- Highly numerate with experience of setting and owning budgets
Qualifications
- Qualified Lawyer (in the region of 5 - 8 yrs PQE)
- Relevant practice based and/or in‑house experience
