We are looking for a Heat Networks Engineer to play a key role in shaping the future of our heat network assets. You will provide specialist engineering expertise across the development, review and operational integration of heat networks, including shared ground loop systems, ensuring schemes are technically sound and ready for adoption.
Working closely with teams across design, construction, asset management and operations, you will support high standards in design, commissioning and handover, while helping to develop robust processes for long term operation. Your responsibilities as a Heat Networks Engineer:
- Standards & Guidance: Develop and improve technical standards, specifications and guidance for the design, construction, commissioning and adoption of heat network and shared ground loop assets.
- Design Review & Assurance: Provide expert engineering review and challenge of designs, calculations, layouts and commissioning proposals to ensure safe and operable asset adoption.
- Adoption & Handover Requirements: Support the development of asset adoption criteria, including documentation, testing evidence, commissioning records and as built information.
- Operational Strategy: Help establish consistent approaches to maintenance, monitoring and fault response, aligned with operational learning and regulatory requirements.
- Project Delivery Support: Work closely with internal and external teams to ensure schemes are delivered in line with company standards and industry requirements.
- Quality & Performance Input: Provide technical input on quality, operability, maintainability and whole life performance throughout project delivery and during defect identification.
- Continuous Improvement & Industry Awareness: Contribute to process improvements, business planning and the development of heat capabilities, while staying up to date with relevant legislation and market developments.
Candidate Requirements:
- Experience / Knowledge: Experience in heat networks, shared ground loop systems, district or communal heating, building services, or a related energy infrastructure environment. Demonstrable experience across design, construction, commissioning, operation, technical assurance, or asset adoption of heat network systems. Good understanding of key system components including energy centres, distribution pipework, HIUs, metering, controls, pumps, valves and heat pump interfaces. Able to interpret technical information, identify risks or non-conformance and provide clear, practical engineering feedback. Experience applying engineering standards and working with project stakeholders, alongside a sound understanding of relevant regulations, CDM principles and whole life asset considerations.
- Qualifications: Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Building Services, Energy Engineering or a related discipline, or equivalent relevant industry experience. Professional membership or progress towards IEng or CEng is desirable, along with any relevant heat network or building services qualifications or training.
