Due to retirement, an exciting opportunity has arisen for an experienced, positive, and proactive Clinical Manager to join our "Outstanding" CQC-rated practice. We are a forward-thinking, well-established SystmOne practice that embraces innovation to improve patient outcomes and efficiency. You will be joining a strong management structure, working alongside our HR Manager, Practice Manager, Estates Manager, and incoming Business Manager, all supported by the Partners and an excellent team of clinical and administrative staff.

Main duties of the job

As Clinical Manager, you will provide clinical leadership, supervision, and mentorship to our multidisciplinary team.

  • You will support the designated leads both clinically and managerially who have responsibility for the Clinical Practitioners, Practice Nurses, Nurse Associates, Trainee Nurse Associates, and Healthcare Support Workers.
  • Your role will include managing the delivery of effective and efficient healthcare, including medicines management, chronic disease management, wound care, travel health, child immunisation, and cervical cytology.
  • Providing clinical sessions in an area of interest.
  • Working closely with the Practice Manager to ensure high-quality, cost-effective patient care.

Job responsibilities

The post holder will lead and support our clinical team while also actively participating in patient care through weekly clinics. This dual-role position combines leadership, operational oversight, and hands-on clinical expertise to ensure high standards of care, effective team performance, and exceptional patient experience.

  • Demonstrate both professional and personal credibility and be recognised and respected as a leader in their field.
  • Take responsibility for own development, learning and performance including participating in clinical supervision and acting as a positive role model.
  • Undertaking appraisals, reviews and return to work interviews.
  • Support the development of others in order to maximise staff potential.
  • Undertake appropriate clinical supervision on staff they oversee, ensuring it is documented and stored.
  • Actively promote the workplace as a learning environment, encouraging everyone to learn from each other and from external good practice.
  • Lead others to make realistic self-assessment of their knowledge and skills, challenging any complacency and actions that are not in the interest of the Practice or users of the service.
  • Act as a clinical leader in the delivery of (non-GP) clinical services to patients, ensuring that the needs of the patient are the priority.
  • Lead in the planning and implementation of changes within their clinical area.
  • Lead and participate in the development of local guidelines, protocols and standards.
  • Lead the clinical team in the planning and engagement of practice-based commissioning or similar initiatives.
  • Promote the role of the clinical team in the provision of care.
  • Identify development opportunities for the team, liaising with educational providers as necessary.
  • Ensure the clinical team have the necessary skills and qualifications to enable them to meet their job descriptions.
  • Will have read, understood and implement HR Policies as required, seeking advice from the HR Team where necessary.
  • Lead, motivate, negotiate and influence others to achieve the Practice's desired outcomes.
  • Communicate effectively regarding highly complex issues which may be sensitive/contentious needing to be dealt with in a very specific manner.
  • Receive and interpret NHS policy and guidance and communicate that to the Partners and all necessary personnel.

Clinical practice

When consulting with patients, the Clinical Manager will ensure they, and the clinical team they manage:

  • Assess, plan, develop, implement and evaluate treatment programmes that promote health and well-being.
  • Proactively identify, diagnose and manage treatment plans for patients.
  • Produce accurate, contemporaneous and complete records of patient consultation, consistent with legislation, policies and procedures.
  • Work with other health care professionals to diagnose, monitor, manage and treat long-term conditions, including using non-drug-based treatment methods, in line with national and local policies and practice needs.
  • Review medication for therapeutic effectiveness, appropriate to patient needs and in accordance with evidence based practice and national and practice protocols.
  • Work with patients in order to support adherence to prescribed treatments.
  • Ensure clinical practice has a person-centred approach with goal-based discussions being important within consultations.
  • Provide information and advice on prescribed or over-the-counter medication on medication regimens, side-effects and interactions.
  • Prioritise health problems and intervene appropriately to assist the patient in complex, urgent or emergency situations, including initiation of effective emergency care.
  • Support patients to adopt health promotion strategies that promote them to live healthily, and apply principles of self-care.

Qualifications

  • Registered with the NMC/HCPC/GPhC.
  • Non-Medical Prescriber Qualification.
  • Specialist qualification or equivalent in an area of interest.

Experience

  • Minimum 5 years post registration experience.
  • Experience in implementing protocols and clinical guidelines.
  • Experience of managing a team.
  • Experience in quality initiatives such as clinical benchmarking.
  • Experience of working in an MDT with professionals for other organisations e.g. statutory and voluntary.
  • Experience of using and following infection control procedures.
  • Experience of working in primary care.
  • Experience in management of long-term conditions.
