A leading IP and Tech Law firm is looking to build out their AI practice and investing in a Sr Associate or Legal Director to head the practice. Around 70% of the workload will focus on AI governance, AI regulatory compliance, and AI‑related commercial contracts, with the remaining 30% covering broader commercial and technology matters. This is a unique opportunity for a lawyer passionate about AI, automation, and digital regulation to work at the forefront of this rapidly developing area.
Key Responsibilities
- Advising clients on the EU AI Act, UK AI governance frameworks, international AI standards, and upcoming global regulatory developments.
- Supporting clients with AI risk assessments, documentation, model governance structures, and compliance programmes.
- Drafting and negotiating AI development, deployment, licensing, and collaboration agreements, including foundation model and machine‑learning arrangements.
- Advising on responsible AI practices, transparency requirements, data usage, IP considerations, model training, and vendor/supplier risk.
- Assisting clients with the rollout of AI policies, ethical frameworks, and internal governance models.
- Working with cross‑disciplinary teams (including tech, regulatory, and data specialists) on complex AI advisory mandates.
- Advising on software development, SaaS, cloud, digital transformation, and other technology‑rich commercial contracts.
- Supporting corporate teams on technology and IP issues in M&A and investment transactions.
- Providing pragmatic commercial advice to clients across a range of sectors including technology, financial services, life sciences, media, and retail.
Candidate Profile
- England & Wales qualified solicitor with 3-6 years PQE from a top‑tier City or international firm.
- Strong experience advising on technology, digital regulation, or data law, with a clear interest or existing focus on AI.
- Familiarity with AI regulatory developments (e.g., EU AI Act, UK AI governance proposals) and emerging best‑practice frameworks.
- Experience drafting and negotiating AI‑related or technology‑focused commercial agreements.
- Strong analytical skills with the ability to apply novel legal frameworks to fast‑developing technologies.
- Excellent communication and client‑facing skills, with a pragmatic and solutions‑driven approach.
