The role: We are looking for an exceptional candidate to join the firm's Medical team in our Colchester office. You may already have some entry-level accounting experience, have worked in a professional services environment, or perhaps have decided now is the time to kick-start your career. This could be the role for you.

  • Shares our vision and values
  • Is a great relationship builder
  • Can inspire the people around them
  • Is approachable, with strong communication skills
  • Is resilient

We have a flexible approach to academic entry requirements. We'll consider your academic achievements, but your strengths, motivations, and connection with us and our values are just as important. We're looking for someone with a broad range of interests and experiences.

The team works across our offices in Norwich, Colchester and Ipswich. Whilst the role will primarily be based in Colchester, our flexible working policy allows for a combination of working from home or from other offices, to best suit the individual and support the team.

This opportunity is ideal for someone looking to begin their studies and undertake their AAT qualification while working in an award-winning accountancy practice. In 2025, Larking Gowen won 'Best Benefits to Support Work-Life Balance' at the National Employee Benefits Awards.

You will be enrolled on an apprenticeship that will develop a wide range of business and personal skills through work-based learning and professional qualifications. We offer Level 3 and Level 4 AAT (Association of Accounting Technicians) apprenticeships. Your initial period of study and work experience will give you a good knowledge of various aspects of accountancy, including auditing, accounts preparation, bookkeeping, personal and corporate tax, and business development. You'll be able to earn while you learn, gaining hands-on experience of the business. We'll give you paid time off for study and flexible working.

Once you've completed your studies, you will be given the opportunity to undertake further study to become a fully qualified Chartered Accountant (ACA). In return, you will have the support to establish your career with Larking Gowen at a pace that suits you both personally and professionally.

We also offer benefits that include:

  • Medicash programme
  • The option to buy additional holiday
