Role Profile

Reporting To: L'Arche Village Leader

Responsible For: Coordination and facilitation of L'Arche Belfast's Activities Programme, which is based at our Village site. Supervision of other facilitators delivering activity sessions. Development of potential income-generating activities that are in line with project objectives.

Main Job Purpose: To work as a lead member of a team responsible for developing a dynamic programme of daytime and evening activities for adults with learning disabilities and other groups. To work with the rest of the Village team to develop activities which generate income, helping to maintain project sustainability. To ensure all Health & Safety, Adult Safeguarding, and other statutory requirements of the programme's specification are met in accordance with the organisation's commitment to standards.

Key Performance Measures:

  • Feedback from participants, their families and carers, and line manager.
  • Feedback from key partners, particularly Health and Social Care Trusts.
  • Delivery of a wide variety of high-quality activity sessions.
  • Income generation from project activities.
  • Compliance with relevant Health & Safety legislation and regulatory requirements.
  • Working within the ethos and values of L'Arche Belfast, as outlined in the Mission and Values Statement and guidelines from the L'Arche International Federation.

Detailed Responsibilities:

  • Together with the Activities Facilitator and Activities Support Workers, develop and deliver a dynamic programme of activities throughout the year, including but not limited to arts and crafts, exercise and fitness, cooking, and nutrition.
  • Build on existing income-generating activities (e.g. sale of craft products) and develop and deliver new activities which actively involve project participants.
  • Develop and provide a variety of alternative remote activities (e.g. via Zoom) during times when the project may be closed to participants due to coronavirus lockdown measures.
  • Offer opportunities for participants with learning disabilities to co-facilitate sessions for other marginalised groups.
  • Use feedback and suggestions from participants and partner organisations to adapt and reshape the programme so that it better meets participants' needs and interests and provides opportunities for them to develop new skills.
  • Provide practical support to participants as they engage in activities and help them develop new skills.
  • Along with the Village Leader, act as a point of contact for staff from the Big Lottery and other key partner organisations.
  • Communicate respectfully with participants at all times, at a level appropriate to their needs and abilities.
  • Assist with conducting site health and safety assessments and risk assessments, involving participants in the process where appropriate to help them learn safe working practices.
  • Ensure all accidents and incidents are appropriately recorded, reported, and discussed at team level to prevent reoccurrence.
  • Assist with the development of effective on-site communication systems that meet the needs of both staff and participants, including the development of pictorial communication aids where required.
  • Assist with practical site maintenance, including cleaning and tidying venues between sessions and ensuring supplies are well stocked, involving participants where appropriate.
  • Attend team meetings as required and play a key role with other members of the leadership team in creating and implementing a strategic plan for the Village site.
  • Provide support and supervision to the Activities Support Worker and any volunteers involved with the project through regular team meetings and one-to-one supervision sessions.
  • Participate in opportunities for personal training and development.
  • Participate in regular supervision and annual appraisals to receive support, increase knowledge, identify training needs, evaluate work performance, and support professional development.
  • Provide First Aid services to participants when necessary.
  • Maintain records appropriate to the role.
  • Undertake any duties consistent with the overall purpose of the post as directed by Management.
