Help shape the future of recycling in our communities. Do you enjoy talking to people, being out and about and making a visible difference in your local community? Broadland and South Norfolk Councils are looking for three Recycling Support Advisors to join our Waste and Recycling Team. These hands‑on roles will be at the heart of our work to increase recycling, reduce waste and roll out new services, including South Norfolk’s new food waste collections.

Working across both council areas, most of your time will be spent out in our communities, meeting residents on their doorstep, answering questions and helping people understand how to get the best from their recycling and food waste services. Every day is different. One morning you might be visiting households to help residents understand how the new food waste service works. In the afternoon you could be speaking at a local school, attending a community event or working with collection crews to resolve service issues.

You’ll play a key role in helping residents recycle more and waste less by:

  • Speaking directly with residents and answering questions about recycling and food waste services
  • Supporting the rollout of new recycling and waste initiatives
  • Helping tackle issues such as contamination in recycling bins
  • Visiting communities to encourage participation in recycling schemes
  • Investigating service issues such as missed collections
  • Working with collection crews, contractors and council teams to improve services
  • Supporting community campaigns, school visits and local events

If you enjoy working with people, solving problems and seeing the impact of your work in real time, this could be the role for you.

About you

We’re looking for people who are friendly, confident and enjoy engaging with people from all walks of life. You’ll be comfortable working independently, organising your own workload and spending much of your day out in the community. You’ll also need:

  • Strong communication skills and confidence speaking with residents face‑to‑face
  • Good organisation skills and attention to detail
  • Basic IT skills
  • A good standard of education (A level or equivalent)
  • A full UK driving licence and access to a vehicle
  • A willingness to work outdoors in all weather conditions

Experience in customer‑facing roles, community engagement, environmental work or waste services would be helpful, but it isn’t essential. What matters most is your enthusiasm, confidence working with people and your interest in helping communities become more sustainable.

Closing date: Tuesday 7th April 2026
