An exciting opportunity has arisen for an Environment and Waste Technician with a focus on community engagement within the Waste Strategy and Policy Team. We are looking for someone to engage with local communities to support them in their efforts to reduce waste and support delivery of waste projects and initiatives.

About the Role

You will identify opportunities and work with a range of organisations including, for example, Leicestershire communities, voluntary groups, schools and businesses. You will develop, plan and deliver community level engagement activities involving workshops and events utilising local amenities where possible to support local projects that contribute to the delivery of shared waste initiatives. You will also engage with members of the public and organisations in the delivery of waste initiatives e.g. writing newsletter articles, social media posts and supporting events. You will work in partnership with both internal and external partners and assist in the preparation and delivery of reports.

About You

To apply for this post, you must be able to evidence in your application how you meet the following criteria:

  • GCSE or equivalent in Maths and English
  • BTEC National, NVQ3 or 2 A Levels
  • Experience of developing working relationships with a variety of stakeholders such as community groups, charities, schools etc
  • Enthusiastic and self-motivated with an interest in waste and the environment
  • Good verbal and written communication skills along with good organisational skills with the ability to plan work.
  • Able to work effectively alone or as part of a team and able to cope with conflicting demands
  • Competent in the use of Microsoft PowerPoint, Excel, and Word
  • Flexible approach and co-operative but also be able to demonstrate tact and be assertive when required

In addition, we also expect you to share our commitment to our values and will ask you to evidence when you have demonstrated them as part of the selection process. This post is covered by Part 7 of the Immigration Act (2016) and therefore the ability to speak fluent English is an essential requirement for this role.
