Are you looking for an exciting challenge with the ability to drive service improvements to residents? Do you enjoy working in a fast-paced, busy and dynamic environment with multiple workstreams? The waste and recycling industry is undergoing the most significant change in a generation with the aim of increasing recycling rates, reducing household waste and lowering carbon emissions to provide more sustainable services, all set against the backdrop of Local Government Reorganisation.

We are looking for a dynamic, enthusiastic, and organised self-starter to join our small but busy Joint Waste Client Team as a Waste and Recycling Officer delivering waste and recycling services across Hart District Council and Basingstoke & Deane Borough Council. The key aspects of the role include:

  • Safe, efficient, and reliable delivery of waste and recycling collection services via a contracted service arrangement.
  • Develop, manage, and maintain excellent relationships with residents, colleagues, contractors, and other relevant stakeholders.
  • Delivering new services in line with the Environment Act 2021.

The postholder will be responsible for managing service delivery within their specific geographical area, which will include proactive contract monitoring, problem solving, engaging with residents and contractors both over the telephone and face-to-face to manage complaints and service failures with the aim of driving service improvements. You will be able to demonstrate excellent communication and negotiation skills; a passion for service delivery and the ability to prioritise work under pressure in a fast-paced, dynamic environment. A proactive approach to problem solving and tackling challenges is fundamental to identifying and acting upon opportunities to improve service delivery.

This post is covered by Part 7 of the Immigration Act (2016) and therefore the ability to converse at ease with members of the public and provide advice in accurate spoken English is essential for the post.

For an informal discussion about the role please contact Ashley Wild, Waste & Recycling Services Manager on 01256 844844 or email any questions or queries to ashley.wild@basingstoke.gov.uk.
