Role Overview

The role is for Wardrobe Assistants (14) and Senior Wardrobe Assistants (6) at the Lapland UK Live Site, Ascot. The department is divided into three sub‑departments: Group, Principals and Father Christmas. Each day 200 elves, 50 performers and 50 Father Christmas performers are dressed for a 1.5‑hour scripted performance followed by 1.5 hours of free time. Wardrobe shifts run 6 am‑3 pm and 2:45‑11:45 pm. The job requires a high‑energy, fast‑paced environment with no weekend break guarantee. Reports to the Live Site Wardrobe Manager and is managed day‑to‑day by Wardrobe Deputies.

Key Responsibilities

  • Dress performers precisely and compassionately.
  • Identify and conduct necessary maintenance during show dates, keep a detailed log of repairs and notify Deputies or Manager.
  • Follow systems to ensure costumes are laundered, cleaned and refreshed between shows.
  • Develop an exceptional knowledge of the costumes and standards, support the Wardrobe Manager and Deputies in delivering high standards.
  • Complete all set‑up and closing duties necessary for the department to run seamlessly.
  • Follow cast lists to set the costumes for each show day.
  • Maintain and develop existing systems used for the smooth running of each shift and show.
  • Communicate running and hand‑over notes to Wardrobe Deputies and Assistants.
  • Respond quickly and efficiently to any on‑set Wardrobe Calls.
  • Attend training days specified by the Wardrobe Manager.
  • Maintain a supportive and positive Wardrobe environment with cast and team.
  • Represent the company and comply with company policies.

Role Requirements

  • Excellent teamwork and communication skills.
  • Passion for the role and the company.
  • Proven experience in hand sewing and machine sewing.
  • Ability to remain calm under pressure.
  • Proven experience in live theatre.
  • Knowledge of costume maintenance techniques.
  • Experience laundering costumes.
  • Basic knowledge or appetite to learn Excel and Google Drive.

Location & Dates

Location: Lapland UK Live Site, Ascot – Whitmoor Forest, Swinley Road, SL5 8BD. Start date: 3rd November 2026. Preview day: 5th November 2026. Opening day: 7th November 2026. Close date: 24th December 2026. Contract may extend into January.

Pay & Benefits

£15.85 per hour plus a £50 per working day subsidy. One on‑site meal per working shift. Lapland shuttle bus from local train station to site. Off‑site parking at Ascot Racecourse with free shuttle bus to site. Holiday paid in full at contract end calculated at 12.07% of total hours worked. £50 subsidy per working day for travel costs.
