We are seeking a commercially minded Internal Lawyer to support the business through the review, drafting, negotiation, and management of a wide range of commercial agreements. This role will play a key part in enabling business growth while protecting the company’s legal and commercial interests.

The ideal candidate combines strong technical legal expertise with sound judgement, a practical approach to risk, and the ability to work closely with stakeholders across Professional Services (Planning, Design, Environmental and Engineering), procurement, finance, people, and operations.

If Successful, You Will:

  • Review, draft, and negotiate a wide range of commercial agreements, including customer contracts, supplier agreements, NDAs, MSAs, SOWs, service agreements, licensing terms, and procurement documentation.
  • Provide clear, practical, and risk‑based legal advice to internal stakeholders on contractual issues and commercial terms.
  • Support consultants and procurement teams in contract negotiations to help close deals efficiently while protecting the company’s position.
  • Identify legal, regulatory, financial, and operational risks in contracts and recommend commercially workable solutions.
  • Develop and maintain contract templates, fallback positions, clause libraries, and negotiation playbooks.
  • Partner with cross‑functional teams to improve contract review workflows, approval processes, and governance.
  • Help ensure contracts align with internal policies, legal requirements, and compliance obligations.
  • Advise on key areas such as limitation of liability, indemnities, data protection, confidentiality, intellectual property, termination rights, service levels, and payment terms.
  • Support dispute prevention by ensuring contractual clarity and appropriate risk allocation.
  • Contribute to legal training for business stakeholders on contracting best practices and common risk areas.
  • Maintain accurate contract records and support contract lifecycle management processes.
  • Escalate complex or high‑risk matters appropriately to senior legal leadership or external counsel where needed.

Essential Requirements:

  • Qualified lawyer/solicitor/barrister with appropriate legal qualification in the relevant jurisdiction.
  • Typically 3–8+ years of post‑qualification experience, depending on role level.
  • Experience in reviewing and negotiating commercial contracts, ideally in‑house or in a law firm supporting commercial clients.
  • Strong knowledge of contract law and commercial legal principles.
  • Experience supporting business teams in a fast‑paced environment.
  • Ability to balance legal risk with commercial priorities.
  • Strong drafting, negotiation, and issue‑spotting skills.
  • Excellent communication skills, including the ability to explain legal concepts clearly to non‑legal stakeholders.
  • Strong attention to detail, sound judgement, and the ability to manage multiple priorities effectively.

Desirable Requirements:

  • Experience in a professional services environment, and with tenders/frameworks.
  • Familiarity with data protection/privacy issues in commercial contracts.
  • Experience with contract lifecycle management tools and legal operations processes.
  • Knowledge of negotiating enterprise client contracts and supplier terms.
  • Exposure to international contracting across multiple jurisdictions.
  • Strong understanding of Environmental, Social and Governance standards including instilling best practice in anti‑bribery and human tracking audit tools.
