Salary Rates: £15.00 per hour / FTE £28,930

Hours of Work: Contract - 8:00am – 4:00pm, Monday - Friday. Additional Hours – Ad hoc as required for venue bookings, events and to assist or cover for maintenance operatives.

Responsible To: Parish Clerk & RFO

Travel Limit: 5 mile radius from your home to the Community Centre NG20 9EZ.

JOB PURPOSE AND OVERVIEW

  • To provide a range of horticultural/grounds maintenance including:
    • Grass cutting including the use of ride on equipment.
    • Hedge cutting
    • Strimming
    • Tree planting, pruning and other arboriculture duties
    • Flower bed maintenance
    • Weed spraying
  • To maintain horticultural skills in a wide range of areas including floral infrastructure, plant knowledge, planting skills, ride on grass cutting machinery, management of open spaces, flower bed maintenance and play area inspection and maintenance.
  • To unlock and lock venues for bookings outside of parish hours including weekends on a rotational basis.
  • To empty litter/dog bins and cleanse/sweep, litter pick all associated areas.
  • To keep any vehicle plant or machinery clean and in good running order, reporting any faults/damage to the Parish Clerk.
  • To work as part of the Operational Team in the pursuance of duties at all Parish Council owned venues and land as required to cover sickness, holidays or larger projects.
  • To maintain council buildings and recreation grounds. This list is not exhaustive.

GENERAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • At all times to carry out duties and responsibilities to comply with the policies, standing orders, financial regulations, employee code of conduct, procedures and constitution of the employer.
  • To work under the direction of and comply with lawful instructions of the Parish Clerk & Centre Co-ordinator, undertaking general cleaning duties at the Council’s venues in accordance with the cleaning schedule.
  • To be responsible for the accessibility of the Council’s venues to users and for the security and protection of the premises i.e. opening and closing and reporting acts of vandalism to the Council and police.
  • To work alongside the operational team to carry out general maintenance duties.
  • To safely operate equipment within own competency levels.
  • To assist in the undertaking of preparation work for the Council’s events.
  • To assist in the undertaking of clearance work following completion of the Council’s events.
  • To drive the Council’s vehicle and lawn mower as required in the pursuance of their duties.
  • To conform to and comply with relevant legislation and the Council’s health & safety rules, including safe lifting and COSHH.
  • To ensure that all contact with the public is conducted in a helpful, courteous and respectful manner.
  • To produce work to a satisfactory standard in the time allowed.
  • To provide in a timely manner, evidence of attendance and any authorised overtime working.
  • To notify the supervisor of any issues.
  • To report any defects with the Council’s equipment, vehicles or property in a timely manner.
  • To undertake any other lawful duties as may be required within the skills, knowledge and ability levels of the post holder.
  • To undertake any training or instruction as required by the Council.
  • To undertake any other duties as may be requested by the Operational Supervisor / Parish Clerk.
  • To carry out all duties causing minimal inconvenience to the general public.

  • Be aware of the requirements of the Council Health and Safety Policy Statement which sets out individual responsibilities for health and safety at work.
  • Familiarise yourself with the requirements of the Council in relation to risk management insofar as it is relevant to your own area of work and the work of the business unit in which you are employed.
